NAS to NAS sync using a virtual machine

This certainly won't apply to everyone that owns a NAS but I found that it really worked well for me. The really short version of a somewhat longer story : I have two Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices on my home network. A Synology and a QNAP. I would have thought that copying, moving, syncing ...

Re: How do I create a scheduled backup job?

If you are capable of setting up FFS then you are technically capable of setting up Task Scheduler. Yes, it's different and a bit daunting at first. My suggestion is to look at some of the scheduled tasks already in TS and see what options you have. TS is not a great app but once you get your task s...

Re: Need to have a large sync only run during certain hours

I would go to the filters section of FFS. At the top, in the "Include" section is "*" so everything is sync'd. I would remove the * and replace it with just a couple folders that you are sure can be sync'd in just a few hours. Of course this will mean that each day you will have ...

Feature request : Sync large files

I'm not sure that this is even a feature that FFS would even want to attempt but I'll throw it out there anyway. And, sorry if I'm not using all of the correct technical terms... Too keep it simple, I have two computers - one local and another one remote. I have a lot of the usual Excel, PDF, Word, ...

Re: The Donation Edition is much too expensive

Unfortunately, the interwebs has gotten people used to getting way too much software for free or cheap. Back in the "old days" we paid plenty for our software and had nowhere near the selection or the quality. Just reflect upon how much value that you receive from FFS and the other cheap /...

Re: Sync files over network

On my home network, I have 2 NAS drives. I set some of the NAS folders to not use their Recycle bins. I get the same message that you are getting and I have always ignored it because I assume the NAS is doing exactly what I told it to do. Everything appears to be working perfectly.

Dedicated PC to run FFS backups / sync's ?

Just sharing an idea here. I have both QNAP and Synology NAS's on my network ; I use one to backup to the other in a separate building on my property. On top of that I also have the usual PC's and cloud accounts on my network that are part of my backup routine. I did manage to figure out how to back...

Renamed files

Among other devices, I have a QNAP NAS, a Synology NAS and a Windows 10 desktop on my home network. My QNAP is the main storage location. I renamed about 30 video files on the QNAP and then ran FFS to mirror to the desktop. It took about 5-10 seconds to run. But, when I ran FFS to mirror the QNAP to...

After almost 40 years as an accountant, this has to be one of the silliest arguments / discussions I've witnessed. My email notification / thank-you's / receipts / invoices, provide the sender's details, the amount, and what I donated to / for. Anyone in the accounting department who is pushing you ...

Re: Sync from Server to Server

Elchico, this may be too late to be of use but... I have two NAS's, a QNAP and a Terramaster. I found that to do a direct NAS to NAS file transfer I needed to use Rsync. It runs on the NAS's, not my workstation. I'm not geek enough to give much of a technical explanation but Rsync appears to have be...

Re: Feature Request - Swap Sides pair by pair

Perhaps but then I'd have to do that every day. And then the remaining pair wouldn't get backed up so you would have to do something similar for those which mean doing this sort of thing twice. And, one of them is a batch process which is run automatically by the Windows Task Scheduler so that's not...

Re: OneDrive sync feature.

I've been a FFS and Onedrive user for several years. I use FFS to do basic backups to Onedrive every day. Is there something something else here that I am missing. On the right side, I just browse to the Onedrive folder as my target.

I'd like to add my vote for the old interface or at least an option to use it as an alternative. I wouldn't necessarily put it in the Critical category but certainly in the Really Like To Have category.

Feature Request - Swap Sides pair by pair

I have 8 FFS backup files, the biggest of which has about 10 folder pairs. I just had to swap sides on 4 of those pairs. I planned to use the Swap Sides feature but found that it would only swap all 10 pairs at once; I did not see a way to individually swap just the 4 pairs that I wanted swapped. Di...

Re: Window 10 Task Scheduler keeps Running

I just came up with the solution to my problem. I set up Task scheduler per the FFS instructions on the web site here. Those instructions say : "In Windows 7 Program/script always needs to point to an executable file like FreeFileSync.exe even when the ffs_batch file association is registered. ...

Re: How to only update newer or larger files?

Unless I'm not understanding the problem correctly, I'll take a shot at a solution :

On the FFS main screen, click on the Filter icon at the top. On the Filter tab, right side, you can specify minimum and maximum file sizes. Would that not work ?

Among the various TS parameters, I set the following : Configure for : Windows 10 When running... user account : The name of my user account that I log into Windows with : Run with highest privileges TS Triggers t...

Re: Copy files but not folders

I should elaborate a bit. Because movement in view of the camera can be quite random, new folders can be created and files written to them at almost any time. So there is no way of knowing when files or folders will be created and what there names will be. Well, the names are somewhat predictable on...

Copy files but not folders

I have a security camera system that creates a huge number of folders. In the simplest terms, it creates new folders for every day and every hour that a recording occurs. Every day more and more folders are created. I would like to be able to consolidate all of the files in a single folder. For exam...
