Jshelper: It should work, I have a similar situation since I cannot install it on my work laptop. Due to admin policies all installations require admin credentials. So I donated and obtained the portable zip. Just extract and run it and I'm able to sync files from my local computer to network drives.

Why not develop a portable ready version? (A zipped one that just is extracted and executed, with no installation).

With that, users with my situation can download the portable ready version directly at the computer, unzip it, execute it and wala!

As I've mentioned on differnt posts. The portable installation is not working at all when trying to run on a different computer and the portable installation was created on another computer. It doesn't matter if it is run at original computer or not, at the second computer it won't run.

I installed it on a USB then copied to a computer and get the install.dat error

What I know is that If I install it on computer A, I can't copy the installation to a USB flash or cloud storage, then copy to computer B and make it run.

I need to have FFS 8.4 (and all the upcoming versions) installed in portable mode, and then copy the folder to a different computer

But I have attempted this via USB and via Dropbox with no result, every time I start FFS I get the install.dat error

Please fix FreeFileSync.
Fix that annoying install.dat issue.

8.1 still has this annoying "feature" I installed it at my USB, then copied the whole folder to another laptop, and when trying to run the program the same message appears.

So this has not been fixed. I have to stay with 7.9. Hope this REALLY get fixed for next release
