Would it be considered to make adding Excluded items easier. Seems strange to have to type the folder or file names when a folder/File browsing dialog picker would be better?

What you are asking is already there …
As per the Note below the Manual-page on excluding items, simply run a Compare, right-click the file or folder you would like to (temporary or permanently) Include or Exclude, and select your desired option.
