Hi all

I can't figure out why FreeFileSync doesn't work for me as expected with my imported photo files (copy and rename photos from an external drive to my NAS, doesn't matter if I using Lightroom or another tool for that). Example:

Original file name / size (source, an external drive or MacBook):
DSC_0023.jpg / 6’836’696 Byte

Imported file name / size (destination on NAS):
20190119_113804_DCS_0023.jpg / 6’836’696 Byte

Also the timestamps (yyyyy.mm.dd, hh:mm) for the "created" and "last changed" attributes are similar on both file versions.

Unfortunately I don't get with FreeFileSync 10.8 compare process a correct result which files exist on both directories, all imported/copied/renamed files and all corresponding original files on the other side are "new" respectively needs to be created on the other side.

It doesn't matter if I use "File time and size", "File content" or "File Size" comparison mode.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance,
Stefan

It can be solved with a checksum management. Not sure if author will add this....

@camino :
FreeFileSync (FFS) compares identically named files in identical folder-tree locations (with respect to the left and right base location) on date and size (or on content, if so selected).
How do you expect FFS to know that it should compare the mentioned two files?
The filenames are different.
FFS is primarily a file-sync tool, and is not a duplicate finder.!

@necrolord :
A checksum may be useful in identifying duplicates.
But finding differently named duplicates is beyond the scope of FFS.

if on pc use whereisit for crc calc and duplicate finder
regardless of name
or VisiPics 1.31 (faster and what its designed for)
