Re: A New Option For When to Update or Not Update Files

I understand that if you compare by date that it will always copy the newer over the older file so I don't use the compare by data/size option. I compare by content. When two files have the same content they should be set to the date of the older file. This avoids needlessly copying files between di...

A New Option For When to Update or Not Update Files

I would like to have the compare by file content made a little smarter. What I DON'T LIKE ABOUT FFS is that it keeps updating the date on files. It always copies the newer over the older dated file EVEN IF THEY ARE THE SAME. I have multiple computers and multiple NAS. The current version is always u...

Re: File compare using diff or Vimdiff

I have implemented meld from meldmerge.org as my compare/merging tool on my Mac Book Pro.
It works well but I wish it loaded just a little faster.
I had to install HomeBrew to load Meld.
Overall, it is a success!

Problems using multiple computers with NAS

I have several computers I synchronize to my NAS. I find that I can only use the update mode because of the problem I describe below. I have two computers A and B. They are meant for different things so they don't have the same information. If computer A has a directory XXX and computer B does not, ...

Re: [Feature Request] Support OneDrive

It would be best if you said what didn't work. Maybe I, and others, have run into that problem and know how to work around it. I have no problem using one drive but you must be CAREFUL!! My business one drive has lots of file on it an I don't want them copied to my computer so I exclude lots of dire...

Re: I want Delete after Update

Robocopy will delete after copying.
robomirror is a program I use when FFS fails me.
robomirror is a GUI for robocopy and is good for most simple copies. It is multi threaded so it is fast like FFS. To do something special you need to use the optional parameters. There are a lot of them.

Re: Suggestion about having unique sync.ffs_db

This is not true. Two-way will delete a file from one side if it was deleted from the other, non-directional. Yes, I noticed that now. It will only delete files on the right side ( dst ) that are not on the right side ( src ) This is where I got into trouble. I have several PCs ( Windoze, Mac, and ...

Re: File compare using diff or Vimdiff

@Zenju, I will try opendiff. I didn't know it was installed on my Mac Book Pro. I will write here how it turns out. @therube, my Mac doesn't have a C:\ drive or run *.exe files. There are plenty of very good file comparison programs for Windoze like Compare It! or WinMerge. Macs have a more limited ...

File compare using diff or Vimdiff

Often time I get a bunch of files that have conflicts and I want to compare the files. I have the compare feature working well under windows but not my Mac Book Pro. My Mac Book Pro does not have a graphical compare program so I want to use diff or Vimdiff that come with the Mac Book Pro. I uses dif...

Re: Suggestion about having unique sync.ffs_db

FFS two-way synchronizations acts like it has a/purge or /mir function like in robocopy or --delete in rsync by default. If the left hand side doesn't have a file and the right hand side does, the right hand side is marked for deletion. I know about it now. It just caught me by surprise once. My sol...

Re: OneDrive sync feature.

I have a company and personal one drive and I can use FFS to sync to both. I also sync to a Synology NAS at my company and a Drobo5N NAS at home. At home I also have a 8TB USB drive connected to the Synology router and I can sync with all of them from my PC. HOWEVER!, there are some gotchas. Do not ...

Suggestion about having unique sync.ffs_db

I have had one disaster using FFS. I am pretty sure it happened because of 3 reasons. 1. I was new to FFS and is much different than robocopy and synchronize it. 2. FFS WILL DELETE FILES in two-way and update mode if it sees files in the source are not in the destination. Robocopy and Synchronize it...

Comparing Synchronizers

First, none of them are perfect. They all have flaws. The ones I am comparing are robocopy, Syncrhonize it! and Free File sync. First robocopy. There is a learning curve to this one but I think it would be the best of the 3 if you use batch files and espcially the job: option. It will take time to m...

Re: Easily show conflicts

Allie, good idea! I have the same request. I always display the conflicts so the show conflicts buttons would be better for finding the conflicts in a long list of files. An option to use the conflicts button as it is or to simply go to the next conflict would be great.I use FFS to synchronize my NA...

ffs_tmp problem makes FFS unusable

I have an 8TB USB Drive connected to my Synology router that I back up to. However, my synchronizations are always stopped by errors that say the *.ffs_tmp file exists. I must use other backup like Robocopy or Synchronize It. I did a search of ffs_tmp and there are 500+ topics so I know I am not the...

Flatpak version for Raspberry PI

I was able to get it installed but the FFS has a few issues. I must start FFS from a command line. No big deal. However, the terminal repeatedly displays "Loading IM context type 'ibus' failed" and "undefined symbol: ibus_input_context_set_client_commit_preedit" Also, when I clic...
