Yes, it does preserve sparseness, I know. As it does read each block anyway, it can as well allocate it sparse on destination if the source is not- well, in principle - the question is whether it actually does. And if not, whether this would be a good idea for even further increasing the capabilitie...

Or will FFS make files sparse if the destination filesystem allows it even if the original file was not sparse?
