Re: Copy only new file to different folder

I also need help on ths. I need to copy the modified files (only those) to a separate directory. Reason for this: due to harddisk error or virus, some of these files have been modified to size 0. I don't want them to replace the previous set of files, I rather want all modified fiels elsewhere. (ano...

Re: 6.15 finds nonexistant files, 7.4 finds no files

1) full deinstall (also old settings) reinstall did help on the (wrong) message that all files are in sync. 2) the program file folder is now still shown in the tree view on the left. It now correctly shows files for the old backup (target) and no files for the source. But by default, it shouldn't b...

6.15 finds nonexistant files, 7.4 finds no files

Thanks for the good software. Today, I came upon the followng strange behaviour: Background: before reinstalling Win 7, E:\ had a folder program files with Libreoffice in it (C was full). After reinstalling Win 7 some months ago, Explorer doesn't show this folder (admin account). I am pretty sure I ...

Re: Same file - but in FFS different file size?!

> treats files as equal that have the same name, size and modification date. This is virtually equivalent to being binary equal, as there is software that changes file modification time, that statement is not necessarily correct. I think that is why one sometimes needs binary comparison. Klaus

Re: deleted all my Files in 10 seconds without asking!

I have followed this thread for some time, so I *think* I did not do any error when ffs suggested to me today to delete files (with the extra notice there is no wastepaper basket available due to the remote disk). I think the following should not have happened: setting: add files in one direction on...

why scan right side folders if update only

I am updating from a folder to another folder. My original folder contains many subfolders with many files. I tried to speed up scanning by moving one large folder from the origin (left) to elsewhere. So now, this folder is existing right (from an earlier sync) but not left. I had assumed its 600000...

Re: speedup of scanning possible if filenames not displayed?

to clarify, I am updating from a folder into an empty folder. Even for 30 GB, it should not take 5 min to find out that the folder is empty and that everything needs to be updated. The thing is, I cannot just click start and go away (the copying takes long, anyway). Even if I directly click update, ...

Re: speedup of scanning possible if filenames not displayed?

This is indeed the scanning process, FFS doesn't show each file name, which would be a trivial mistake to make.Zenju
well, but it DOES show file names.
Maybe only every 10th or 100th or 1000th.

Still, would it be faster without?

speedup of scanning possible if filenames not displayed?

On Win 7, the scanning of large folders (30 GB) takes minutes. Is this: a) the scanning process, b) the file name display in the FFS window? It looks like each file name is displayed. If b): make an option to switch it off? I might want to see the names, but not always. I am sure from my own softwar...

network sync extremely slow

network sync extremely slow: after a few MB at start, it went down to 40 kb. If I use cobianbackup, I have full speed nearing the network speed. So it is not the network. cb uses Windows routines to copy, so maybe that is the reason? But cannot do long pathlength. So there is an incentive to use ffs...

Re: file verification after copying

This is interesting.

The infobox gives messages like

copying file xxx
verifying file xxx

but sometimes it gives only messages

verifying file yyy
verifying file zzz
verifying file aaa

so I had the impression it verifies everything.

using verify: first doing a compare (date and size), then copy left to right: I have the impression that ffs does not only verify the files that it copies or replaces, rather, it also verifies the files that have been decided not to necessary be copied? is that correct? So in a way, it also tests th...

Re: file verification after copying

wow, this is good. I think your program made my day.

I really tried nearly everything I found on sourceforge, and all others had
problems here or there. These only came up with 100GB or larger syncs.

So many thanks,

Re: compare by file content. error?

Ok, I found the problem: mirroring sets the file unequal to copy left to right. But in my understanding, mirroring would replace newer files on the right with the older files from the left, so that is not what I want. Aktualisieren (third option, 'copy left to right if left is more recent' has the a...

Does FFS doe a file verification after copying? If I do a one way sync, I might simulate this by setting: compare by date AND compare by content (or SHA1 or MD5 or ...). For this compare, I would like to exclude all files that are only on the right side or that are newer on the right side. That woul...

logfile for errors

is there a way to: ignore errors during an unattended run (need not be a batch) write them into an error logfile for later viewing like: I have popups because directories are not accessible, don't want this to halt the syncs (or have to push the button), but need information later that this occurred...

filename.$$$ is not considered for sync

I have a filename.$$$ in my source (Vista). It is from an old DOS program that
intentionally did name same files like this.

It is not copied or considered for sync. Any reason why? Other sync programs
copy it (but have other problems, I nevertheless like yours most ...).
