For me the string used should be checked taking note about the context.
Sometimes MS leave "directory" (ex. Active Directory) but in file manager context directory = cartella and directories=cartelle.
If you right click and select "Nuovo" (New) Window propose "Cartella" (=Directory).

For me "virtual fodler" = "virtual directory" then in Italian is "cartella virtuale"
