Folder timestamp changing even though no files were synced
I have noticed that the folders' modified time stamps change to the current date/time whenever a sync is performed even though the folder had no sync candidates. The sync.ffs_db timestamp does NOT change. This happens even if you just do a "Compare" without doing the "Synchronize"...

Re: Sync based on file time and size AND file content
Let's suppose I am doing a Left to Right Mirror, and the Left side FileA is dated 1/2/2023 and is 10 bytes, Right side FileA is dated 1/1/2023 and is also 10 bytes. FileA and FileB contents are the same. Based on the comparison parameters "File time and size", Left FileA would be copied to...

Re: Sync based on file time and size AND file content
I was hoping that if the dates are different but the content is the same that the file should not be considered for a sync. What I think should happen is the date/time is checked 1st. If there is a difference, THEN the content should be checked. If the content is different THEN sync. In this way the...

Sync based on file time and size AND file content
Is there a way to sync files based not only on the file size and time but also by file content. I have applications that change the file date/time even though the content has not changed. Just because the file's date/time was updated doesn't necessarily mean the content was changed. I think this wou...

You can't. You have to disable Image Guardian or use Robocopy.

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
I used Backup4All (now in version 8) for a couple of years and was very satisfied. The options are overwhelming but very understandable. It ran flawlessly and their user forum and support was pretty good. About 6 months ago I switched to KLS Backup Professional 2019 and am very satisfied with it als...

Re: Error when calling FreeFileSync from VB6
I just figured it out. I only get this error when running from the IDE but once it's compiled it seems to work ok. I did think it used to work from the IDE but can't be sure. It's been a while.

Error when calling FreeFileSync from VB6
I'm running WIndows 10 x64 and am trying to shell to FreeFileSync 10.23 from a Visual Basic 6 program and I receive the following error from FreeFileSync: "FreeFileSync 10.23 needs Windows 7 or later operating system to run!". This used to work in a prior version of FreeFileSync but it was...

Re: Revert to text log files!
I'm using programs written in VB6 and and they ARE NOT reading the log file correctly. Looks like each line needs a CRLF not just a LF. I've reverted back to 10.19.

I also prefer "text" log files. I parse the log files every night for errors. Please make it an option.

Last sync date not updated when running from batch file
The image below shows the sync jobs I run nightly from a batch file (.ffs_batch) colored black, and those I run nightly from the GUI colored light blue. Why isn't the "last sync" date being updated when run from a batch file? I am using the same logon credentials in each case. 2020-02-18_7...

Last Sync not updated when run from ffs_batch
How come when running a sync using an .ffs_batch job from a batch file the "Last Sync" # of days doesn't get updated. It only appears to update if the sync job is run from the GUI. I thought this worked before but can't be sure.

Re: Last Sync not updated
Yes they do. I just checked last night's sync and it worked fine but now it shows the last sync date 6 days ago. The sync job in question uses versioning, the other 9 do not if that makes a difference. How does FFS determine the last sync date and where is this info stored?

Last Sync not updated
I have 10 sync jobs that run nightly. Although run nightly, and they all complete successfully, one of them shows a last sync date 5 days ago. I verified that this sync job did indeed run so I'm not sure of why it shows 5 days since the last sync. Not a big deal but just wondering. See attachment. 2...

Re: Change the default log path
Thanks Radish. I do see that now although it would be nice to also be able to change it there. I am actually using the "per configuration" setting now but it seems counter productive to have to change it on every sync when it's the same. I wonder why Zenju never replied to this? I gave up ...

Change the default log path
FFS 7.8 Donation Edition - I'm trying to change the default log path by going to Tools>Options then clicking on the existing path that is underlined. New naming convention for Versioning
FFS 10.4 does pretty much everything one could ask for but there is always someone... When using versioning you have three options: Replace, Time Stamp (folder), and Time Stamp (file) which work well, but using the 'Time Stamp" options also include the time. What if you only want a date? I trie...

Zenju,
All your suggestions are spot on. I think this should solve most if not all the issues in 10.3. looking forward to these changes.
Thank you

Since the log file names have the same name as the sync job, I think I'm going to write a VB program that moves the files from the common folder to my individual folders. Either way it's a pain. I can see where you might want a common log folder but having the option would be better.

I would use the Symbolic Link but I use multiple log folders based on what the sync does. It was really nice to be able to specify a different log folder for each sync job. Hope it makes its way back.

New logfiles folder
I gather in 10.3 all log files are now created in \users\xxxx\Appdata\Roaming\FreefileSync\Logs. Is there any way to specify the log file location as was in 10.2?

I would also love to see this. I had to write my own program to clean up the files and although it works, I'd rather see it as part of FFS. Besides this missing piece, a really excellent program. Thanks Zenju

I've been hoping for version limiting for some time. My requirements are simple, just the number of days to keep would work perfectly for me.
