Cannot open directory "Y:\.systemfile".

Hello,

Sorry, I tried searching the forum for "systemfile" and get 0 results.

I'm setting up a mirror copy of one HD to another within a D-Link DNS 323 NAS box (the first is named Z: and the second is named Y:). I configured the backup to exclude nothing except the defaults:
\System Volume ...

Re: Error Code 31 and don't you have a list of codes?

Gianni1962 thank you for the tip. Setting the Task to "Run with highest privileges" seems to have fixed my problem.

Plerry, I must say that I'm puzzled that this has indeed turned out to be a credentials problem as you first suspected. I never would have gotten that from the error message. Thank ...

Re: Error Code 31 and don't you have a list of codes?

Thank you for that tip Gianni1962.

Actually I might be a victim of the opposite: upon examination I find that my old backups were set to run with highest privileges but my new backups were not! I have set the new backups to run with highest privileges and will see what happens at the scheduled ...

Re: Error Code 31 and don't you have a list of codes?

Thanks Plerry.

Does that error code sound to you like a credentials problem? It doesn't to me, but as I said, I can't find a list of error codes on the website.

Yes, I do have the Windows Task authored by myself as Admin, same as I did when things worked before the upgrade.

Also, if user ...

Error Code 31 and don't you have a list of codes?

Hello,

After upgrading to version 9.3 from something really old like 5.x it broke my existing backup configurations so I'm starting from scratch. I created a backup and batch file, set it to wake the machine and run at 6:00 AM today but it failed with Error Code 31: A device attached to the system ...

Re: What does adding the asterisk actually do?

As far as you are talking about the include-filter, you have to specify the files to be included.
So, if you want to include all files in the folder Dropbox in the left- and right-root locations, you should specify \Dropbox\* in your include filter.
If you want to include all files in all Dropbox ...

Re: What does adding the asterisk actually do?

Ok I'm still a bit fuzzy on this one but I think I get it.

Adding the leading asterisk tells FreeFileSync to include in the filter criteria every folder by that name that exists from your root location down. It has nothing to do with including or excluding files within the folder (except as would ...

Re: Some folders can be added, some can't!

Thank you for the reply.

I didn't realize that I had somehow allowed *\Documents\ into the Exclude list. I removed it per your suggestion but then the Documents folder didn't appear anywhere and I couldn't figure out how to make it reappear, so I just started over (I suspect that after you save ...

Some folders can be added, some can't!

Hello,

Attempting to build a new config file, see attached screenshot. Not knowing any better method, I chose to start with the path to my main collection of user data, D:\Users\Michael, exclude the whole thing (can't remember just how), then selectively Include the folders I want to back up. This ...

Re: What does adding the asterisk actually do?

Let me add that in the Manual under the topic 'Exclude Items' I've found the following:

Filter description Filter Phrase
All subdirectories of the base directories *\

Note: I can't get the page formatting to post properly in the two sentences above.

That would seem to mean that if you want all ...

What does adding the asterisk actually do?

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a new config file. When I right-click a given folder to get the Include or Exclude options, I get a choice to either have it led by an asterisk or not.

Ex: /Dropbox/ or */Dropbox/

I can't see any difference it's making in the list of files. What's it for?

Thank you ...

Upgraded from 5.2 to 9.3 and it broke things.

Hello,

First off, I am not an experienced user of this app (but a Windows user since 1993).

I installed the new version, opened it and immediately got the error message I've posted below. Took a screenshot and moved on.

But it failed to load the folder list for that configuration file also, and ...
