Re: "FFS:\" instead of "C:\" in GlobalSettings.xml?

Thanks for your replies. I've just purchased the Donation Edition of FreeFileSync and updated to the current version 12.1. I now find that "GlobalSettings.xml" has "C:\" instead of "FFS:\" for references to config files (and log files). :-)

"FFS:\" instead of "C:\" in GlobalSettings.xml?

Recently, I've been looking in the GlobalSettings.xml file and notice that references to config files (and log files) start with "FFS:\" instead of "C:\". For example: FFS:\FFS Configs\My Test Config.ffs_gui instead of C:\FFS Configs\My Test Config.ffs_gui Could you please advise...

Yes FFS checks disk space and shows a warning when starting sync.Zenju

Low Disk Space Warning After Compare?

After running a Compare, does FreeFileSync provide a warning if there may be insufficient disk space before attempting a Synchronise? If not, could this functionality be added to a future update?

Re: BUG: Starting FreeFileSync.exe from another process yields Error Code 32

As FreeFileSync is open source, would it be possible to run it and step through the code with a debugger to find precisely where it is failing? I really like FreeFileSync Portable. Version 6.2 still seems to work well, but it would be really nice to be able to use a newer version, as 6.2 is about a ...

Re: Undoing a sync - how to back "new" files out of a folder

Hi, I know that questions about undoing a sync have been posed before, but I don't think they addressed this particular aspect... I am trying to merge and streamline my photos and I just mistakenly sync'd two folders. One (Folder 'A') had 1500 photos, the other (Folder 'B') had the same 1500 photos...

Adding Filter to an Existing Profile?

If a filter is added to an existing profile (and Mirror is being used), what happens to files/folders on the right-hand side that have been filtered? Are they just ignored and left as is, or deleted to make it match the left-hand side? For example, if a filter is added to exclude the folder "Te...

Re: Quick Contents Compare Option?

It's possible to exlude files by size via filter. FreeFileSync respects this setting during a binary comparison.Zenju
Thanks for your reply. However, this existing functionality would skip a "large" file completely rather than comparing just the first part of the file's contents.

Quick Contents Compare Option?

Would it be possible to add a Quick Contents Compare option that only compares the beginning of a file, with a user-specified Quick Compare Limit? WinMerge 2.14.0.0 has this feature. This could flag different files that a date/time and size comparison would miss (and a full comparison takes too long...

Checking File Checksum When Comparing?

In addition to checking the date/time and size of a file, would it be possible to also consider the checksum of a file (e.g. MD5 hash)? This would flag if a file's contents has changed, without looking at the entire file (usually too slow). BTW, is it possible to obtain a file checksum (say from the...

Re: Free File Sync log file incomplete

Just curious - what happens when the log file becomes larger than the value specified by LastSyncsLogSizeMax? 1) Is the old log file deleted (either permanently or moved to Recycle Bin), and a new blank log file is created from scratch? or 2) Is the existing log file kept with newer entries added at...

Re: Is it possible to backup to 2 different locations

I plan on doing something similar, but will create two configurations for each of the backups that I run independently. I prefer not doing the backups at the same time if possible, so I would have another untouched working recent copy should anything go wrong.

Re: "Detect Moved Files" - Supported Systems?

Thanks for your reply Zenju. So file movements are not detected when a FAT32 system is in use. I am using a Mirror sync from my local hard drive (NTFS) to my flash drive (FAT32). This would explain why synced files are deleted and recopied again on the destination (instead of just moving on the dest...

Quickly Determining Date/Time of a Config's Last Sync

Is there an easy way to tell the date/time when a configuration was last synced (without having to look in log files)? For example, it would be nice to know at a glance when I last did a backup (sync) to my USB flash drive to know how current it is. I'm using FreeFileSync 6.2 on XP (portable version).

Created Date/Time Stamp Behaviour

When copying a file manually in Windows, the created date/time stamp is set to the current date/time. However, when FFS copies a file, the created date/time stamp is set to the original. Just wondered why there is this discrepancy in behaviour?
