What are the specific paths that you are trying to sync? Sometimes setting certain protected objects will still deny access with permissions granted. It can also be another program, typically antivirus, that is interrupting the action.

Sounds like the connection is either timing out or the server is severing the connection.

Using mirror for creating a backup is a bad idea as well, for the reason you stated. If it gets deleted from the source accidentally, then it will be deleted from the backup. You might be interested in keeping files only on target folder unchanged to circumvent that.

Cloud storage also does its own syncing and other processes that can slow down file transfers. Large files will transfer faster than many small files as well

That is not currently an option. You can only overwrite or do nothing to the target file if the source is newer.

I have only seen that issue on drives or storage mediums that are failing. Run Gsmart on the disk to see the SMART data. There shouldn't be any reallocated or uncorrectable sectors. I'm guessing it goes corrupt once data started being written to a certain physical sector on the drive.
