Re: Main Sync Toolbar; Icons Only When Too Small
I think your first "Compressed.png" layout looks great. That particular set of buttons is overly large, IMO, and I would prefer they were the same size as the configuration buttons.

Main Sync Toolbar; Icons Only When Too Small
Can the main toolbar button reduce to icons only when there is not enough space to display them, pretty please? Could the icons also proportionally shrink with vertical space available?
I like to put this toolbar at the top, and next to the comparison results. I know the program well and don't need ...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
I'm staying current. I mostly like the new format, if Zenju could change the spacing so it was just indented fixed amount per directory level, instead of indented based on the length of folder name, I'd be happy.
That would satisfy me too, though I'd preferred a proper tree with zero-change ...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
I'm trying to stay positive, but in the latest release (11.2) the list has become even less readable.

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
I don't have a significant interest in this debate -- I have a 50" 4K monitor, and though I sync a few million files daily, both locally and remotely, FFS meets my needs either way as I can maximize my window and have no truncation or misalignment. I've donated occasionally, but I consider FFS to be ...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
@Zenju
I have another observation from using FreeFileSync, and that is that with the relative view having the filename in both halves of the view is entirely redundant.
It's quite possible that much better horizontal space utilization (and note, I have a 50" 4K monitor) could be achieved by doing ...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
It seems to me that there is a good compromise that balances optimal horizontal and vertical space. Like code editors do with "collapsing" folders with no files:

In the case of FreeFileSync, that would be folders with no contents which are different. One line is used for the path ...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
@Musenka,
Just what I was going to suggest. Collapse *folder* and *subfolder* names to a single line, but list their contents on separate lines with minimal indenting. Like most good code editors do for empty interstitial folders.

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
@zenju
What you show for the tree is very different from mine:
ffs_gui.png
Notice the way that a lot of horizontal space is sacrificed by placing children aligned to the end of the parent.
Even in your screenshot the amount of indent is excessive, and variable; this would be vastly improved ...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
Actually, I take back my comment about better use of space; it's a visual improvement, but the contents are still indented by the length of the parent folder name, so the file name will still quickly end up past the length of the field when nesting gets deep, maybe even more so because the graphic ...

This is already supported. In fact I use Winmerge to do specific compares myself. See Tools => Options, and Customize Context Menu.

Re: [FEATURE REQUEST] Context Menu to Compare and Sync only one specific folder pair
Have to agree with the OP. I would find it very useful to be able to sync a selected folder from a specific config set.

Re: Flat versus tree file structure
I really rather prefer the new tree structure, especially since it makes much better use of the available display space when the files are nested (each folder's contents indented by a small, uniform amount, instead of by the the length of the parent's name.
But it would really helpful to be able to ...

Re: Proposed conflict resolution
I'd also find this useful, but only if a the length was also the same, and a full content comparison was also the same. (This would effectively provide the feature I requested yesterday). If the lengths or content was different I want to see a conflict icon and be forced to manually resolve.

[Feature] Automatically compare content if timestamps differ but not length.
This feature has been requested before, back in 2014 , but I run into the issue every day and wanted to re-raise it for reconsideration.
The problem case and suggested resolution is well stated in the original post, so here I will simply quote that suggested resolution for reference (abbreviated ...
