Re: 11.24 macOS — some interference with Menu Bar

Hi, thanks very much for replying … ;) I can attest to what Pajerow said, error persists in 11.25. However, I hope this won't be too much of a problem, and that syncing will work as it should … ;) Here's another observation; maybe this could be helpful: Yesterday, upon realising the bug, I went back...

11.24 macOS — some interference with Menu Bar

FFS macOS 11.24 shows up on the Menu Bar ONLY after switching desktops in 'Spaces' …

It was NOT like that with older versions.

Re: macOS: 'overlap' between different non-admin user accounts ?

Thanks very much. Good to hear that the issue can be fixed! As I said, after deleting/re-creating ~/Library/Application Support/FreeFileSync several times, FFS has been working fine for me … so I can wait for the next stable release ;) The reason I was slightly astonished was that I didn't know it w...

Re: macOS: 'overlap' between different non-admin user accounts ?

Thanks very much for replying. Alert box when starting FFS from within user1 (NOT user 'test'): https://bayimg.com/758739f5a9ed6f4678113f914a3b018a4974cd9f.jpg seems they don't allow embedding, link: http://bayimg.com/KaabCAAhA Do you have steps that reliably reproduce this? I tried reinstalling FFS...

Re: macOS: 'overlap' between different non-admin user accounts ?

There are some files/folders in

/private/var/folders/9t/

like

com.apple.bird
com.apple.dock.launchpad
com.apple.LaunchServices.dv
com.apple.nsurlsessiond

where only the non-admin user that installed FFS last has read/write access.

Would that have something to do with it?

macOS: 'overlap' between different non-admin user accounts ?

Greetings everyone, I have 2 NON-ADMIN user accounts: user1, user2. user1: installed FFS 'only for me', FFS gets installed in /Users/user1/Applications At no point did I have to enter an Admin password! user2: installed FFS 'only for me'; FFS gets installed in /Users/user2/Applications Again, at no ...

Re: GlobalSettings.xml → DELETE to get back to defaults ?

Thanks. I had deleted EVERYTHING in ~/Library/Application Support/FreeFileSync, the folder was completely empty . NO GlobalSettings.xml, NO LastRun.ffs_gui, etc. Then I restarted FFS, and a new GlobalSettings.xml was created. So my previous 3 new filters must have been stored somewhere else; otherwi...

Re: GlobalSettings.xml → DELETE to get back to defaults ?

Thanks for replying. Filters are saved per config Where is that config file? I checked Package Contents of the FFS.app file; is it 'FreeFileSync' in the folder 'MacOS' ? Anyway, GlobalSettings.xml, when recreated, is not the default, but it gets augmented with previous settings: the original, 'virgi...

Re: GlobalSettings.xml → DELETE to get back to defaults ?

P.S. Oh, and what I've just noticed: While everything else seems initialised after deleting GlobalSetting.xml, my default Filters are different ; they now do include the 3 Filters I added earlier, i.e. /.DocumentRevisions-V100/ /.TemporaryItems/ */._* This is good, but it seems that Filters are stor...

Re: GlobalSettings.xml → DELETE to get back to defaults ?

Thanks y'all for your replies! It sure appears to do that. I second that; it does. … but it never hurts to try. Of course, :D What I should've been asking: Is deleting GlobalSetting.xml a legitimate way with no downsides, intended by the programmers, to initialise FFS and get back to all default set...

GlobalSettings.xml → DELETE to get back to defaults ?

Greetings,

before recklessly fiddling with this file:

after deleting GlobalSettings.xml, would it then automatically be re-created with the default values next time FFS is started?

Thanks … ;)

Re: macOS: ._ (dot underscore) files — correct Filter ?

Syncing 'Mac OS Extended' ↔︎ 'ExFAT'

So here's what my 'Filter → Exclude:' looks like now:

/.fseventsd/
/.Spotlight-V100/
/.Trashes/
/._.Trashes
*/.DS_Store
/.DocumentRevisions-V100/
/.TemporaryItems/
*/._*

This seems to work.

Re: macOS: ._ (dot underscore) files — correct Filter ?

I just discovered the following: macOS Finder will NOT SHOW DOT_UNDERSCORE FILES , even if display of hidden files is active (Cmd+Shift+DOT). FFS, on the other hand, DOES detect and display them, and therefore wants to sync them. Just deleting ._files may be pointless, as they'll probably be created...

Re: macOS: ._ (dot underscore) files — correct Filter ?

Thanks for replying.

It seems that if I do the initial sync using FFS, then NO Apple Double files (dot underscore) are created on the ExFAT volume.

So maybe I'll just delete the whole ExFAT volume and sync again, using FFS from the outset.

macOS: ._ (dot underscore) files — correct Filter ?

Hi everyone, I have 2 volumes; one is 'Mac OS Extended', the other is ExFAT. So far, I've used 'Synkron'. I'd guess it wouldn't make any sense to sync back all those dot underscore files on the ExFAT volume to the 'Mac OS Extended' volume … I already found this thread: https://freefilesync.org/forum...
