... that interferes with FFS use of VSS. Does anyone have a solution or will there be an update to solve this? I am on version 14.9 - 64 bit. Obvious workaround is to shut down programs like Outlook that have locked files, so that the backup can be done without VSS. But am hoping for a better solution.

The Outlook data file is locked by a process
To copy locked files in FFS, the setting "Copy locked files" needs to be selected
To copy locked files, FFS uses the VSS (restore point) service in Windows
To use VSS, you have to run FFS as administrator

You can close/kill Outlook before running the sync ...

The Outlook data file is basically always being touched, even if it ends up being unchanged, ask Microsoft to figure out why. If you are using RTS to monitor a location containing it, it will trigger RTS to fire off the command line. You didn't mention RTS though, but I have to assume you are using it ...

Wish I had thought about it. It sounds logical and should work. It's better to have the mail server use a server-side forwarding rule (I do this in Gmail) so it's always active. Not depending on Outlook client for example to forward the email only after the app is run on the client.

Disabling Fail-safe file copy didn't solve the issue and I still got an error message:

This is not the issue.
This is indeed an Outlook file, but it is not opened during the sync process (Outlook cannot even run on this device which is only a network disk and not a Windows machine).

Assuming Outlook uses the TomerDor.pst file, if you opened Outlook while FFS was performing the sync, Outlook will lock the *.pst file, and FFS will not be able to copy the file (any more).

If you can write a script to tell outlook to do that, sure!
Just put the terminal-command to execute the script in the "run a command on completion" field.

Same problem... The last version I installed (11.11) doesn't sync Outlook Desktop files.
Even if you close Outlook (so the files are free!)

...so I restored my D drive manually, by copying the files in Explorer. Everything was fine, the D drive and the backup matched. And then I ran FFS, knowing the two drives were identical apart from my Outlook files, and now I have 8.7GB inaccessible space on my D drive again. What gives???

They probably generate different traffic type.

What's the name of your email client?

If it is Microsoft Outlook, for example, the mails are contained in a few files that can be very big, and this generally can generate the wi-fi issue that you are experiencing.

*.ost-files are normally locked while Outlook is running/open.
Try closing Outlook and then sync again.
Or try using volume-shadow-copy.
