Re: A new possible feature
This is what the grid usually looks for me when a folder has been rearranged by creating some subfolders and moving stuff to them. Only like 10 files might actually have changed here. I could be too dumb, but for me there is no way to see what is going to be happening on sync. https://i.postimg.cc/7...

Re: A new possible feature
In my view, it's unfortunate that "moved/renamed" is in the same category as "updated". I basically have to blindly trust that syncing moved files will work properly anyway. This is at least when many files have been moved, because there is no way to see what is going to happen t...

Re: New sync concept in FreeFileSync 13
I see, thanks. In my view, that's a bit unfortunate since you basically have to blindly trust that the moving/renaming will work properly, at least when many files have been moved or renamed, because there is no way to see what is going to happen to which file (apart from checking each file manually...

Re: New sync concept in FreeFileSync 13
I also tested renaming the subfolder and it performed the same actions: Create new folder, move files, delete empty original folder. Do these actions each show up in the same respective rows in the sync preview? Meaning, do you get one row for each file that is going to be moved, or two different r...

Re: New sync concept in FreeFileSync 13
In my case, unfortunately, the original folder is even synchronized backwards and the renamed folder is synchronized forwards, so that afterwards both the original folder and the renamed folder are present on both sides 😮 However, this could be related to the fact that the folder is on SharePoint on...

Re: New sync concept in FreeFileSync 13
Thanks for the awesome new sync concept! Meanwhile, is there a way to recognize and sync renamed folders ? I am syncing from a local folder to a network share, and it seems that renamed folders are not recognized. Instead, FreeFileSync wants to delete the existing folders and replace them with the r...

Re: [Question] How to sync junctions, symbolic links and hardlinks?
Interesting that you mention that Syncovery can do that. I had used Syncovery myself literally for decades, but I still never could figure out which of its zillion of settings (combinations) to use. I'm now using GoodSync for other reasons, however GoodSync also can't sync hardlinks, symlinks etc. p...

Synchronize only file name, not content
Hello Forum,
is there a way to synchronize a file directory to another file directory, however by creating empty files (with only the same file name and date) on one of the two sides?

Re: [Question] How to sync junctions, symbolic links and hardlinks?
Dear all, just a question of understanding on this topic: if I use the option "Include symbolic links -> Direct" then, in particular, are junctions copied in the same way as with Link Shell Extension with Smart Copy , meaning that the junctions work at the destination exactly as they did a...

Syncing two drives where either one is always offline
Suppose I have two PCs "A" and "B" at different locations, and only one of them is running at any point in time. Each PC has a 1 TB data drive which should be kept in sync either via a USB stick or, preferably, via a cloud storage. Both the USB stick and the cloud storage however...

I have the same problem here. Trying to sync two huge folders, full of subfolders and files with tens of thousands of differences. FreeFileSync shows 18! files. And ALL of them are named "descript.ion" -- which I even excluded in the exclusion filter! There is something terribly wrong goin...

Re: Preserving dates and times of directories

Re: Preserving dates and times of directories
Nirsoft's FolderTimeUpdate is a simple tool for Windows that scans all files and folders under the base folder you choose, and updates the 'Modified Time' of every folder according the latest modified time of the files stored in it. After thinking about that for a minute: why doesn't it update the ...

Re: Preserving dates and times of directories
I just realized that our folders typically contain mostly MSG files whose last modified date typically doesn't change because they are never edited. So by restricting the re-dating of the folders based on MSG files only, chances are that the results will be very good, and very close to the actual or...

Thank you for sharing your experience! > Be aware that if a user copies a older file to a folder, the original [?] folder will reflect the date of the activity Why do you think is that so? I just tried the incredibly ingenious tool Nirsoft FolderTimeUpdate from further above in the thread on a temporary, local copy of my file server. Hi all,

I have the same problem here after restoring a folder structure on a network drive using FreeFileSync.
Is there any new status on this feature request, or on a workaround/fix?
Thanks!

find duplicate FOLDERS only, not files
Hi forum,
unfortunately, my account in the AllDup-Forum is not activated yet, therefore my (rather urgent) question here:
Is there a way to search for duplicates of folders only, for example using AllDup (regardless of the folders' content)?
Thanks for help :o

Re: Checking presence of files regardless of folder location.
Thank you very much Gianni, that's very helpful!
I now managed to find most, if not all files that are present only on one side of the synced folder pair, regardless of the files' sub-folder location. This is an amazing feature of AllDup.
Thank you again and
Best regards
David

...however, I can't seem to make it work. AllDup lists thousands of files that are on both paths as allegedly "Non-duplicate files" in the log file. This is even when they have the same name, date and size. These are my comparison settings: https://i.imgur.com/rhX0h15.png Btw., what does &...
