Re: Difference between ffs_gui and ffs_batch

Opening ffs_gui files opens (surprize, surprize ...) the FFS GUI (Graphical User Interface) with the setting stored in the ffs_gui-file. The compare and sync only start upon user interaction. Opening ffs_batch files runs the compare and sync as specified in the ffs_batch-file in FFS without presenti...

Your error message seems to suggest you do not have the proper rights.
Try running FFS with elevated rights, e.g. as Admin.

The message seems clear enough: you don't seem to have the proper rights to write "F:\sync.ffs_lock".
Did you try running FFS with Admin rights?

It seems the best you can do is to make a batch-script that checks the availability
of the server or of the ffs_batch-file, and only if available invokes FFS.

Re: Feature to allow or select newer Files automatically if conflict detected

Generally spoken: a conflict signals you have a problem! If only one side has changed since the last 2-way sync, there is no conflict, and the newer file will be marked to be copied over to the other side. If you do have a conflict in your 2-way sync, it means that the file at stake has changed at b...

Once you are at this point ... 1) Don't use any software that would write anything to the stick It might overwrite any data still on your stick and make it unrecoverable. 2) Use any suitable "Undelete" tool that suits your operating system and can handle Fat32. Just do a search for undelet...

Did you check your Exclude Filter?
Files that satify the Exclude Filter rules will not be copied over.

Re: Feature request - decrypt files on a source

Look into BoxCryptor (Classic). BoxCryptor is a file-level encryptor, and as such quite a nice companion to FFS. It allows you to create one or more encrypted folders, that appear in unencrypted form as (virtual) drive(s) after you enter (or locally store) the encryption key. By using FFS to sync be...

At least in Windows, you can achieve this yourself by using the "runas" command ... See http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/runas.mspx?mfr=true Your "program" here would be something like "C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync\FreeFileSync....

As a workaround, you might want to look into using the FileTimeTolerance

Re: sluggish recognition of mapped NAS drive

As you are proficient in creating batch files, you don’t need to wait until the retry option is included in FFS. By replacing your > dir \DiskStation\path\goes\here > nul by a real check on availability, e.g. via IF [NOT] EXIST \DiskStation\path\existing_file_name and only call your FFS batch job if...

Re: Sync file to base path

If you sync left location C:\folderA\folderB\folderC\ to right location D\folderE\, all files and (sub)folders of C:\folderA\folderB\folderC\ will sync to D\folderE\ in their folder tree, relative to the left, respectively right “base” locations. Thus: a file C:\folderA\folderB\folderC\fileA.txt wou...

In multi-disk NAS systems, the spin-up of the individual disks is almost always done sequentially. Spin-up requires a supply current that is substantially higher than the steady-state current. Simultaneous spin-up of all disks thus requires a more capable / bigger / more expensive / (steady-state) l...

If the content of that directory is not relevant to you

you might simply put it in your FFS exclude-list, and be done with it.

As there are no takers yet, I'll give it a try. If all these files need to reside in one and the same folder, I am not aware of an easy way out. However, if you can move all files not to be synced to one or more subfolders, you can easily exclude those one or more subfolders from the sync. Conversel...
