Re: v2 and 2.1 will not start up!

Thanks for the info! I knew this Visual C++ compilation would cause some trouble... :) The problem is that some .dlls are missing on your work PC. Those are usually provided via "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package" which you might have installed on your home PC, so it's...

Re: v2 and 2.1 will not start up!

The latest versions will not start on my work computer. When I double click on FreeFileSync.exe I get an error stating 'This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect'. this error does not occur with v1.19 even when uninstalled and reinstalled. V2 works perf...

Re: V 2.0 is crashing

When will you upload the file? I can only see the 2.0 version. The new version v2.1 is already uploaded since yesterday evening. But apperently sourceforge currently has some serious issues with the new webdesign. Not only is v2.1 not visible although I can see it in release management, also there ...

Re: V 2.0 is crashing

Indeed I found a bug when synchronization finishes: At this point there is a mismatch between actual and displayed data for a very, very, very small timeframe. (But it's enough to crash from time to time) The bug has been there all the time, but became visible not before compiling with MS Visual C++...

Re: V 2.0 is crashing

I can confirm the bug! It seems to appear only if synchronization finishes while the application is not visible (in background).

I'll look into this and find a solution ASAP.

Thanks, Zenju

Re: Love version 2.0!

Hi Zenju, I love the new version 2.0! It does everything I need it to and I am pleased to say that my several years search for a decent backup utility is finally at an end having used in the past Polderbackup, PathSync, DSynchronise and SynchToy. None are as good as FFS. It is hard to see how 2.0 c...

Re: V 2.0 is crashing

For v2.0 I made a major change in compilation: I used MS Visual C++ instead of MinGW. I'll recompile the sourcecode again with MinGW later and would kindly ask you to retest with the new build. This is the only thing that could explain this behaviour as there are no other critical changes since v1.1...

Re: Filter files problem

Hi Yosu, with v1.19 the behavior of the filter changed: It is now applied WHILE comparing. This has the advantage, that you can exclude whole directories, especially useful if comparing by content. In your case (I assume you use "*.doc..." as an include filter) this can make a difference: ...

No problem! Actually I can understand your confusion and have fixed it for the next release: If you add a new folder pair, the list of pairs automatically gets scrolled down to the bottom. This even helps in two ways: 1. If you add a new pair you would scroll down anyway. 2. Confusion like you exper...

Hi Zenju, I think I have found a bug. If you put in all four permitted folder pairs and then click on the "Add folder pair" button again, two black arrows appear on the left side in-between the second and third folder pair and third and fourth folder pair. If you then try to compare the f...

Re: Speed

Hi Zenju, I am synchronizing (mirror) from my laptop to a personal server about 30000 files. 99% of the files are less than 200KB, and 75% less than 20KB. With ViceVersa the speed is between 50 and 500 KB/s, with FreeFileSync speed is less than 10 KB/s and can stay below 2 KB/s for some time. Is th...

Hi JeanPierre, I am not aware that the sync algorithm wastes cpu-time at some point 'cause basically what it does is, it passes the files to be copied to the WIN32 API. Did you also compare the whole runtime? What is the ratio ViceVersa / FFS? I'll do some performance measurements with vice versa wh...

Re: Conflicts

Hi Jean-Pierre,

it's possible to drag-select multiple rows and assign a sync-direction. But even this might be difficult for 1700 files. I'll add an option to the context-menu to do that, similarly to the right-click filtering options.

Hi Rog, you're right! Due to the new concept, it's not clear which mode you're using. Though the sync preview is meant to fill this (information) gap, I also think that it's valuable to see which sync-variant is chosen (though technically there is no such thing such as sync-variant, just the individ...
