Re: Deleted and renamed files keep reappearing

You need to use "automatic" as sync-variant, if you want to propagate
deletions. I assume you're using "two-way" at the moment.

Re: Copying Junctions

What is the exact directory type you're dealing with? Is it a symbolic link, a
hard link, an NTFS junction point or something else?

Could you give some description about how to reproduce this behavior?

Re: Copying Junctions

For "advertising" purposes at most. Generally I consider these options as too specific as to bother "casual" user with them. Also the default settings are both safe and should suffice for most situations. PS: It's both available in *.ffs_batch and *.ffs_gui, not just the first one.

No, they're not on GUI. Which reminds me: I should add some description to
readme.txt as handling these options is not really intuitive.

Re: Shadow Copy requires Administrator Access?

That's required by the Windows VSS API. However (at least if security is not a
concern) I'd suggest to edit shortcut settings to start FFS with admin rights
per default, this saves a few clicks.

Re: Copying Junctions

There are two (I'd call them advanced) settings in each *.ffs_batch file to handle reparse points for directories < TraverseDirectorySymlinks > and for files < CopyFileSymlinks> Junctions and symbolic links are both special cases of reparse points, so setting TraverseDirectorySymlinks to false (whic...

That's right, for VSS you need admin rights.

Re: Only compare automatically

Technically this is possible for sure. But I think the main point here is a
tradeoff between usability and functionality.
Main question is: Is there a way to integrate this functionality in a lean way
without degrading overall usability, i.e. is it worth an extra
checkbox/button?

Re: .deb package for Ubuntu

Is /usr/lib/ part of the PATH variable? If so, I could simplify steps 5 and 6
by first looking if its possible to load the resources without specifying a
path and only if it fails try to load it from the executable directory.

Re: Shadow.dll doesn't work in Windows 7 x64

I just tested it on a brand new Seven 64-Bit system and can confirm..... it
doesn't work ;) (yet!)

For v3.2 I plan to create a native Windows Seven 64-Bit version. Thereby I'll
also build a native version of shadow.dll.

So let's try this trick again with v3.2

Re: Can I Do a Three-Way Sync?

Hi Peter, I assume you used "two-way sync" before but are now using "automatic mode", correct? Automatic mode detects any changes and mirrors them to the other side. This means if you copy an old file to one sync-dir this file is mirrored to the other side, even though it overwri...

Currently that's not possible. So you'd need a distinct folder on target drive

Re: Automatic sync database

An advanced option to specify a sync-database would be okay with me. But unfortunately such a feature is no "quick-win": it's a completely new design, let's get more into detail: Currently there is a database file in each to-be-synced directories. It serves two purposes. 1. needed to detec...

I have to admit that I didn't like the idea of having a database file at first neither. Just as Nuno I also despise usage of those little dummy files like desktop.ini and thumbs.db. But thinking about all implications, saving it directly in sync-dir offers a number of advantages (as discussed) by de...

The file is deleted first (respecting deletion policy "recycle bin/user-

Re: Automatic synchronization

It's similar to two-way sync in that both sides have the same level of relevance (compared to mirroring, that models a master-slave relationship). But where two-way sync works with criteria like older/newer, automatic mode works with "changed/not changed". Therefore it is able to detect an...
