New to this program and forum.
I tried backing up a folder of all my photos since 2018 from an external hard drive (where they had been backed up to using FreeFileSync) to my new SSD on my desktop, (the old one failed).
Unfortunately I used "mirror" instead of "two way" and the entire folder disappeared.
It said something about a recycle bin but no trace of the folder in any recycling bin I could find, ie the one on my desktop.
Is there any hope other than trying to retrieve from my old failed SSD ?
Thanks for any help.

Seek professional services at this point. I have many years of data recovery, and unfortunately SSDs aren't great for such a scenario. Anything modern performs TRIM operations shortly after deleting data, and that severely hurts recovery chances. You didn't say how 'failed' the SSD is, you may not know either. Is it possible that all the data is accessible even though it might be failing? My first step with an unknown drive is to verify SMART health and start a bit-for-bit rescue to a known-good disk.
You need to have the external plugged into the computer to check its Recycle Bin, in case you weren't aware.

Thankyou, yes I think my only chance is if the "failed" SSD can be accessed. I'm picking up an NVme Enclosure adapter tomorrow which will enable me to attempt to access it as an external drive.....fingers crossed !
