how do I install the donation edition via a Linux repository

I installed freefilesync from a linux repository, and decided to donate, but then was given a zip file to download. It runs ok from the unzipped folder, but I really want to just tell the repository version that I've donated so it unlocks the additional features. Is there any way to do this? Maintaining a lot of manually downloaded apps is not the Linux way!

Placing paid packages in repositories is not something most Linux distros do. Paid software is fine, but it pretty much always is maintained separately. Sometimes you can get an .rpm or .deb for a piece of paid software, which tends to integrate into the low-level package managers sufficiently, but those tend to be a separate download and not through the normal yum/dnf or apt.
Projects like FreeFileSync who run their own infrastructure and site generally provide a tarball (or zip file) of a paid version. For a project like this one to maintain a yum or apt repository of even the FLOSS release, is a lot of additional steps beyond maintaining a generic website and forum. Not impossible, but definitely extra steps. I have never seen such an option from FreeFileSync.
