Hi to all,
permit me as intruder to tell to all of You what I think about the "cartella" question/dispute I've seen in this forum.
How is known, many therms (English language) in determinate contest assume various meanings,
in Italian (I'm) the therm "directory(s)" and "folder(s)" both is called conventionally in current use "Cartella(e)".
Under I attach a PDF file and all can view in one other software translated by productor how is called the drive "c:\".
I know that in "accademic" language this is an error but You can find the error only if You try to translate from Italian to English or others language in Italian is correct!
Otherwise there's no way to translate the therm "directory(s)", many others therms in English and translated in Italian or others language have a plural means such: "item", in Italian this therm can translated in: "elemento", "articolo", "oggetto", "componente" etc. then I have to leave untouched all therms in others language where I assume doubt or it is amiguous? if response is yes at the end these response mean You can't translate, not without tacite but NOT destructive conventions.
Thank to all for time spend to view what I wrote,
this is what I think, from 64 Years old man.

I'm sorry for error present in what I wrote: "therm" instead of "term", but when I wrote that at the same time I was searching for the best thermal pad to fixing my pc's then in web search/forum I have exchanged the words. This is a BIG error!

FreeFileSync translations follow the Windows operating system. This terminology should not be "improved" even if the translator has logical reasons to do so. This is a convention to avoid needless confusion for end-users: viewtopic.php?t=5079

Consequently the "correct" translation is whatever Microsoft uses:

@Zenjiu

For me the string used should be checked taking note about the context.
Sometimes MS leave "directory" (ex. Active Directory) but in file manager context directory = cartella and directories=cartelle.
If you right click and select "Nuovo" (New) Window propose "Cartella" (=Directory).
Pelase that also MS many time lose the tranlation context.
"Nuovo" is singular male string and "Cartella" is singular female string.
Then should Nuovo -> Cartella is not correct.
But "Nuovo" is used for many context that sometimes are male and sometimes are male.
Windows is thinking as English language but language as Italian/German/French has male/female/neutral context strings.
