Feature request: Retain Google Drive share settings

I have a docx file in Google Drive that has been shared with a friend via Google Drive's sharing feature.
If the file is edited on my local laptop and sync'd using FFS, the share settings and all edit history in Google Drive are removed.

Basically FFS makes Google Drive think an entirely new file is uploaded which replaces the file of the same name, i.e. a clean start.

Is it possible to have FFS add files with the same name more as an "update" vs as a "replace"?

I manually did a drag and drop of this updated file into Google Drive and the share and edit history were retained. So it is technically possible.
