Sometimes, when things goes south, I get files like
FreeFileSync_x64.exe 12.3 CrashDump 2023-06-18 113759.dmp
on my Desktop

My Desktop is no place for anything I have not placed there intentionally. So please change the default location for the DMP files to either

C:\Users\YOUR-USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\FreeFileSync

or to the folder where the EXE files are; and / or give users an option to choose freely the path for storing them

FFS crashes - as far as I'm aware - almost never happen, so where these files are placed should be a non-issue. In the rare case a crash does happen, it is deliberately placed in a location that is not easily overlooked. Did you report these dmp files for crash analysis?

There are people who have whole Desktop filled up with all kinds of garbage to the point where they themselves do not even know what they have among dozens of icons on a 21:9 monitor with 4K resolution. There also people who do not use Desktop as they relay solely on e.g. Taskbar, Menu Start and [most of all] user defined toolbars in a file manager like FreeCommander. Some may even have some program or script that for whatever reason restores their Desktop to state strictly defined by them, thus wiping any new additions to it

So please do not impose your modus operandi to all of users
