Have you had earlier versions of FFS running successfully (so prior to 13.0)?

Do you have UAC disabled?

What are system requirements for FFS?
Might you be missing a "package" like .NET that might be needed?

Looks like anti virus software is blocking the installation.
Bitdefender is one such culprit.

BTW: FreeFileSync doesn't use .NET and the installer doesn't care about UAC being enabled or not (it does require admin rights, though).

Hi.
First of all, thanx for your interest and your reply!

Yes, I've been running FFS for more than 10 years.
I checked the other points :
UAC is enabled ; .Net is properly installed ; I've installed with antivirus disabled.

I recently updated Windows to the 23H2 version. It's the only system change I made on the PC.

Any other clue?

Hi.
After long and deep research on the Internet, I succeeded in solving my install problem: I had a missing msg.exe executable in my Windows directory.
I don't know the reason (Windows upgrade to 23H2???), but FFS is now installed and running.

Have a nice day!

msg.exe is only included in Pro versions of Windows, although you can manually download it and put it in the same location in a Home version. If you do this, it will likely be removed during the next version upgrade, such as 24H2. I'm super confused about how the presence of msg.exe has anything to do with the installation of FFS

I'm surprised too, but I assume the correction: after copying the msg.exe file into the Windows\System32 directory, the installation process goes to the end without the famous error message (cf. the first message of the post), and FFS runs perfect.

I had a missing msg.exe
And if you were to remove it (or rename it, -> msg.exe.NOT), then FFS again breaks?
(And then rename it back again, msg.exe, & FFS works again?)

When I rename the msg.exe file, FFS works fine.
I think it was only an install problem.
