Is this the "Installer Log" as described here?
https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/275915/debugging-the-installer-encountered-an-error-that-caused-the-installation-to-fa
Was there a popup error message during installation?
Was the installation even successful?

Yes the log i included was the install log as described in the post you noted…
There were no popup error message during installation or while running.. Note that I was upgrading from v11.18 donation version, which not sure if relevant. However, I tried uninstalling and going beck to v11.18, but now it has the same problem, ie I can’t get back to a working donation version with added functionality..
Yes, installation was successful, in that it runs, just not in donation mode...

I just tested my newer M1 MacBook Pro, which is at macOS 14.2.1 (23C71).
It appears to have the same problem in that the install looks like it is successful, but runs in non-donation mode.
Added: install.log

Feb 12 09:55:38 Michaels-MBP installd[1753]: PackageKit: ----- End install -----
Edited:
After further investigation i found that the About screen is still the donation screen, but the donation added functionality does work.

I found a work around. The About screen still shows the donation screen, but the donation added functionality seems to now be available.

As I expected, you are running FFS from a location different than you are installing the new version to

It looks as if you've installed for "all users", i.e. into /Applications, but then moved the app to
/Users/mhenke/Applications, and started from there.

I used the installer to install for all users and then just tried starting FFS from launchpad directly.
The only thing I did to get it to work was make a copy of Registered.dat from /Library to / User/…/Library.

In which directory is the app located? You can check by dragging and dropping the app into the terminal.
Also, can you post screenshots of the about dialog and sync config dialog?
But before that, please delete /Users/mhenke/Library/Application Support/FreeFileSync/Registered.dat to reproduce the behavior you described earlier.

How do these two screens look after you've copied
/Users/mhenke/Library/Application Support/FreeFileSync/Registered.dat
?
/Users/mhenke/Library/Application Support/FreeFileSync/Registered.dat
?

That makes sense. So at least there's no discrepancy between about dialog and sync config dialog.
The question then is why FreeFileSync isn't looking for /Application Support/FreeFileSync/Registered.dat when it's clearly an "all users" installation.
Perhaps there's a way to show the path that FreeFileSync is using: Go to the options menu (command + ,) and press "default", then post the screenshot here. No need to click "okay" to save the changes afterwards.

Here we go! What in the world is this /var/folders/7r/j1hh1h2565g5xvbg?
Apparently it's a security feature called "App Translocation": https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/724969

The issue should be fixed as I've implemented a work around for the next release. ETA planned for later today!
