Folder timestamp changing even though no files were synced

I have noticed that the folders' modified time stamps change to the current date/time whenever a sync is performed even though the folder had no sync candidates. The sync.ffs_db timestamp does NOT change. This happens even if you just do a "Compare" without doing the "Synchronize". Why?

FFS uses a LOCK file to ensure only a single FFS session uses a location at a time. It creates it, runs a compare/sync, then deletes it, thus modifying the folder
