I have installed the portable version of FFS on my portable had drive, that is synced against three computers (two Windows 7 and one Windows XP). I have created a shortcut to it in the drive's main directory, that works somehow due to Windows magic (because the dirve's letter is different on each computer). I have also set the program to run as administrator (because without it it was going weird when switching between Windows XP and 7).

Now every time I run the FFS from the portable drive it will reopen last session (which is fine), but the sessions box will display only the <last session> item. If I open up another ffs_gui file, its name appears in the sessions box, and is kept there if I run FFS twice in a row on the same machine. But the sessions list gets lost every time I move the drive to another machine.

I think that may be due to the shortcut "magic", that only runs the program, but does not change the "start with" path (or does it?).

What you didn't say: Can you still open your other ffs_gui files, even though the list inside FFS doesn't show them. In other words: Are those ffs_gui files really missing on your portable drive (because Windows saved them into Roaming or VirtualStore or wherever) or do you see them on your portable drive?

To deal with variable paths I've been using these tools:
- variable paths: http://www.horstmuc.de/wminis.htm#shortexe
- variable drive letters: http://www.horstmuc.de/wminis.htm

Yes, I can open the ffs_gui files, they are not missing, they are in the correct place on the portable drive. Even more: when I click "open", the starting directory is the correct saved sessions directory (namely the FFS dir).

Thanks for the suggestions. I installed the shortexe, and will try if it works when I get home.

Okay, tried both options and none works.
1. When running FFS by shortexe, it still loses the recent sessions list when moving to another machine.
2. Vdrive does not detect my USB disk ("No removable drive"), even when run from the drive itself, and run as administrator (Windows 7 32-bit).

Hi again. Two new versions have been released, and this is still an issue!

Zenju, have you seen this report? Can you confirm if this is a bug, or give other suggestions as to what may be wrong at my side?

Support for variable drive letters for the config history has been added for the next release:

Thank you very much!
Despite the fix the program was still losing the session list while moving between computers. Only recently I have discovered that it was due to the fact that I used a wrong directory for the saved sessions.
I have FFS installed both on my portable drive (to sync the drive with various computers) and on these computers (to sync them with network drives and other things). Only recently I have noticed that I was opening the session setting files from local installation directories instead of the portable drive. That made the session list disappear, because the program is not installed in the same directory on all my computers, so it couldn't find the files on the same absolute paths.

Now when I open the sessions form the portable drive everything works nice. Thanks again!
