Hello everyone, just new to the forum here, I started using FreeFileSync a few months ago and think that it is a great piece of software.
I have a quick feature request, but due to the number of feature requests here in the forum sadly it is probably unlikely that it will be implemented, which is a shame because it is a small request which should be quite helpful.
In the filter section I have been unable to find a way to filter out small differences in the file size comparisons, file minimum size and maximum size are implemented and straight forward.
Scenario:
My music collection consists of thousands of large (hi-res) files, when copying files to a different storage medium (ie. from a hard drive to a SD card) it is normal to expect differences in file size due to the way the system reports the size of the file depending on allocated blocks, etc.
Just by chance when doing a synchronization, I came across two music files that had somehow been corrupted and were roughly 10% of their original size, going through my entire collection manually to search for more files like these would literally take weeks.
My request:
Alongside the file (min and max) size filters, add a filter to allow the size for the DIFFERENCE between the two files to be selected, this would be very helpful in solving situations like the one described above.
Many thanks,
Az

FreeFileSync (FFS) uses the real file-size in its comparison; not some "occupied on disk" size.
So, if FFS only proposes sync actions based on differences in file-size if the real file-size differs.

No, that is not normal.when copying files to a different storage medium (ie. from a hard drive to a SD card) it is normal to expect differences in file size
There should be no file size difference.
If you are seeing differences, you should investigate why.

Thanks for the replies guys, it is good to know that FFS uses true file size, I was wondering if this is the case.
I think that I will only use FFS to copy these files (where possible) and then keep a look out for changes in files size, and then like you say, investigate why if there are differences.
I still think the file size difference filter would be a useful addition to FFS, using those two corrupted files as an example, it would make finding issues like these much easier.

Haha, please disregard my final comment above and disregard this request.
It was late at night here when I wrote it and I woke this morning and realized the absurdity of my request.
Knowing that FFS measures true file size, then any differences in file size should be investigated.
I have discovered that the reason I was having so many differences appear was due to a change in the metadata of the files, so this situation has been resolved.
