Hi all,
I'm getting used to using FFS and love its simplicity, but there unfortunately appears to be a bit of a basic hole in the documentation of the program. I've looked high and low, on both of the SourceForge FFS pages, and can't find a bit of very basic information!
There are five icons that denote the five different categories of files. Hopefully the image below will work:
Of those five, I'm pretty sure that:
1 is when a file exists in the directory on the left but does not exist in the directory on the right
2 is when some file (which one?!) is newer than the other
3 is ???
4 is when some file (which one?!) is newer than the other
5 is when a file exists in the directory on the right but does not exist in the directory on the left
Again, I've looked through the all the support documentation I can find, and cannot find exactly what these icons mean! It's probably because the developer thought it was so obvious that he didn't need to spell it out, but I guess I'm dense enough I need it spelled out. :-P
Noob question: clarify exactly what the FFS category icons mean?

Do you have tooltips disabled in your Windows settings?
Normally, when you hover the mouse over the icons, you are told what they mean - the easiest and most effective help I can imagine, much quicker than having to peruse the manual.
2-left side is newer
4-right side is newer

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for responding! I don't have tooltips disabled, and when I hover over the action icons (the arrows to copy left or right or trash can to delete, etc.) I get the tool tip, but I don't get anything when I hover over the category icons above, and even though I've looked through the manual, I can't find the explanation for those five anywhere!
In any case, thank you for clarifying #2 and #4.
What is #3? Is that some sort of file conflict?
Thank you!
(and if I have overlooked some documentation somewhere that describes these icons, someone please show me!)

3 = items that cannot be categorized
Relates to everything not covered by the other 4 buttons, such as:
- same date, same size, but different attributes (read-only etc..)
- same date, but different size
By choosing an action for this category 3, you may set up a rule to
- always copy into a certain direction (L or L)
- or leave the conflict as is, so the items will stick out from the rest, alerting you of what's going on.
