FFS 6.12 installer blocked by Windows

For those who do not have admin/install rights on their corporate PC, we used to install the portable version, up to FFS 6.11. With FFS 6.12, the installer gets blocked right away so we can't even reach the page where we get to choose the installation type (local or portable). The problem really is with 6.12 because I can still reinstall versions 6.10 and 6.11 over and over if I wanted to.
Are we stuck with FFS 6.11 forever or are you going to fix this?
I could use 7-zip to unpack and copy the files; that is if I were allowed to install 7-zip in the first place...

What exactly is blocking the 6.12 installation?

Error message pops up immediately upon executing FreeFileSync_6.12_Win_Setup.exe:"You must have admin rights on this PC in order to install this software". But I do not get this with 6.11 or 6.10.

Sure. But we use the French versions here. The translation in my previous message is proper.
See error message attached.

How can I reproduce this error? What Windows version are you using? This is probably related to some special UAC settings.

Maybe you just have to create a "standard" user and launch the installation using that?
It seems to me UAC settings are pretty standard.

Tried that on Windows 7 with the "guest" account, but the installer is correctly showing the UAC prompt rather than your error message.

Elevated privileges are not needed for portable installations, as previous versions of the installer demonstrate. So, I don't agree the installer is *correctly* showing the UAC prompt.

If you cannot fix the installer, please provide a .zip file so we can update our portable installations.

Thank you.

In order to fix the installer I first need to reproduce the error message. Some circumstances make it appear on your system, but not on my Windows 7 x64 that I tested on.

Windows XP SP3. But remember that I can launch FFS 6.10 and 6.11 over and over withour receiving the error message. So my OS or UAC setting are apparently not the problem.

Besides, UAC was introduced in 2008 with Server and Vista.

Maybe if you make it don't ask for elevation at all it will be fixed: our system simply forbid elevation requests, that's why we need portable. You can just ask for elevation when non-portable installation is initiated.

Zenju, I have supplied the info you asked on Dec. 11th in reply to this comment but I don't see any reply from you since then on the original topic. Please advise. The other issue regarding elevation in Windows 7 does not concern me.

The new installer, Inno Setup, uses a different method for elevation than the old NSIS one. NSIS uses an application manifest, while Inno uses dynamic elevation. The application manifest is unknown to XP, since it's a Vista-and-later feature and is consequently ignored. Therefore it was possible to install without admin rights on XP with NSIS, which was never expected to work in first place. With Inno and dynamic elevation it is now also not possible to install without admin rights like on all other Windows operating systems.

Perhaps in theory, but as mentioned above I have XP SP3. I just downladed FFS again and it stills pops right away that I do not have the admin rights to install this application.

Same problem on my PC, Windows7 x64:

No admin rights (initial msg when run FreeFileSync_6.12_Windows-Setup.exe)!

Could you make it portable as previous versions ?

Any update on my 2014-12-23 reply? The problem will not just go away with time and others are also experiencing the same problem.
