Since M, G etc. are decimal units, they must not be used as binary. All SW should use correct IEC binary units KiB, MiB etc. to avoid confusion (manufacturers of USB-Sticks, HDs etc. use M, G etc. since years correctly as decimal units).

There's a conflict here: On the one hand using metric units is the correct thing to do, but on the other hand the whole (Windows) world behaves otherwise. So in order to avoid user confusion, FreeFileSync follows the historically grown standard.
