Hello. First of all thank you for wonderful software!

I hope I am not repeating this:

Sometimes I rename a file on a main hard drive. And when I synchronise (main
with external hard drive) the older file is deleted and then copied again.

So if the two files on two sides are exactly the same (size etc.) but have
different name, wouldn't it be better and faster only to rename one (instead
of deleting and copying again)?

FFS detects and propagates renaming/move, but needs the database to do so,

Thank you.

So using Automatic variant and if possible making sure both drives are not
FAT.

Yes, in certain limited scenarios it is even possible to detect changes
between FAT <-> FAT, e.g. when changing a file name in case or renaming to a
shorter file name, both of which happen to not change the file ids. But a
reliable detection of renamed/moved files can only be expected between non-FAT
volumes.

Does renaming work also if a file was moved to some sub-folder?

Yes, FFS detects both renamed and moved files.
