IS the directory locked while freefilesync compares the two directories? For
some reason I cannot open the directory until I abort or it finishes. It also
makes it so no one can save a file in the directory while the syncronization
is going on. Is there a way to not lock it while it is syncronizing?

The locking mechanism is internal to FreeFileSync, actually the sole existence
of a special file "sync.ffs_lock" signals FFS that this folder is locked. So
these problems must have some different reason, perhaps the hard drive is just
too busy to handle contention properly.

How abt synchronising one source(One server folder)to multiple
destinaotions(diff laptops). It is a mirror sync. And the data synchronized is
very large. So waiting for one laptop to finish to go to next (Bec of locking
the source) is problem. Since its mirror setup, perhaps we can avoid the lock?
i am deleting the lock inthe source now ...is there amy other option?

"Mirror" alone is not enough as a criterium, but "read-only" is. See
