Hey,

I saw FreeFileSync being apoken about on a forum and as I have been looking
for a new sync app to make backups of my data for a while now, I decided to
check it out., I was also told that to make it copy locked files it needs a
shadow dll file ut that it would not work on 7 64bit which is what I am
currently using.

I am looking to format my machine as soon as is possible so I can install my
retail version of Windows 7 as I am still running the release candidate here
but need to know when the next version of FFS will be available as I hear that
that will be compatible?

Yes, I plan to create a native Windows Seven 64-bit version.... if everything
runs smooth, I'll release it next week. Technically I don't expect too much
issues, but you never know...

You'll find info about VSS in shadow.zip. Usually you'd be notified about this
feature the first time you encounter a locked file by a popup message.

Concerning documentation: You'll find most of it in Readme.txt, I've reworked
some parts of it, let's wait for the next release.

Awesome. I'll keep checking!

Can't wait for it to be released, then I can get a full backup done and get
Windows 7 retail installed and put to good use!

Hey,
I downloaded an application called Ketarin yesterday which is awesome and auto
checks to see if a new version of any application is available and if so then
it will auto download the installer for you. I wish to add FreeFileSync to my
Ketarin Config and yes FFS is listed in the db of settings for Ketarin but I
want to set it to auto download the latest version of the windows zip file so
I get all the extra stuff like documentation. The name the zip obvisouly
changes so is there anything you can provide so that people can use Ketarin to
make sure we get the latest version of the 64bit windows zip file?

There is
http://freefilesync.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/freefilesync/version/version.txt
which links to a textfile containing the version number of the latest release.
Or you could just use the FFS built-in update-checker, to check for new
releases once per week.

Ok, SO I can use that text file to check what the latest version number is but
if you amke a 64 bit version will the file be called
FreeFileSync_v{ver}_win64.zip ?

Something like this. Usually I stick to a naming convention, but I cannot give
a guarantee about it.

Sorry, Just a bit confused with what you meant with: "Something like this"?

Will you ahve aseparate 32 and 64 bit versions or will both installers be
packaged in the same zip file? or will they be offered separatley like I asked
above. Sorry, Just would be good to have it set up properly in Ketarin but to
download the latest compatible zip file and not just the exe

Will you post here when it's up and where the link is and how to use the
shadow copy with win 7 64?

v3.2 upload has been completed. You'll find both an x64 installer and portable
zip file in the download area. Using VSS has been greatly simplyfied. There is
a new global option "copy locked files" that is on by default. (Works no
matter if you use XP-32, XP-64, Vista-32, Vista-64, Seven-32 or Seven-64...or
be it Server 200X derivates...everything is detected automatically! No more
thinking for the user :)

Hey,
Just a quick reply from myself to say that this morning, I completed a backup
of my enter User folder to my external drive using FFS and it worked perfectly
and I applaud you for a fantastic application and I'll be reccomending it to
many people!

Thanks Again

Regards,
Neil
