I have used FreeFileSync for a number of years with no problems on my Windows 7 64 bit PC, upgrading when prompted. I got a message today to upgrade to version 8.5 so followed the onscreen instructions, downloaded the upgrade and ran the install. I didn't get a confirmation screen which was a bit weird but I also didn't get an error message.
When I looked for the Start Menu listing for Free File Sync however it wasn't there nor was there an icon on the desktop. So I ran the install progrma again and got his error (screen grab attached).
I tried again - same error. I used C Cleaner to remove all unwanted files and registry entries and tired again. same error. I tried to reinstall the previous version (I still had the install file saved) - same error!
So now I have no FreeFileSync and can't even install the older version. Help!
Update to 8.5 broke the program!

Google seems to indicate that this issue is caused by "Bitdefender".

I don't have Bitdefender installed, my virus checker is AVG Free. Could that be the issue? It hasn't caused any problems with previous versions of FFS.

Quite likely. The FFS installer is running with admin rights, so it must be some other application that is actively blocking the installation.
