"Trying to connect to internet and not trusted" message from virus protection

I'm getting a "trying to connect to internet and not trusted" message from my virus protection software when trying to install the updated freefilesync after making a donation. Looks like it's possible to override the message and install anyway but you can understand why I might be nervous about that.

What's going on and what can I do?

The installer sends a few pieces of non-personal data for statistical purposes to the FreeFileSync homepage (language, country, OS name, OS version, ffs version). Cou can verify this by using any network traffic monitor.
