I previously posted this in the general discussion board. I guess that was the wrong place. I'll try again here:
I am new to ffs. I sync between desktop and laptop a couple of times a week. Since the desktop is set to open some programs at boot, and the laptop does not, it happens that while the sync program indicates a sync direction, because of newer file dates, or perhaps some other reason, I know that I want to sync in a different direction. for example: desktop has opened Palemoon at boot. I have been using Palemoon on laptop the last several days. But since the file dates on desktop on newer, FFS wants to sync those files to laptop. Which, I believe is not the direction that I want it to go. I am also syncing several folders of files at once, ie: several folder pairs (jobs) in one session name.
I see in the relative path window a listing of all files that will be synced and the direction. I also see how to change that direction for each file. However, if a folder has many files, finding those files in the list and changing each one manually isn't a convenient method.
Is there a way to override the ffs proposed sync direction for particular jobs (folder pairs) in the folder pair window. I have searched but am not finding this. eg: override the FFS suggested direction of some files, and just tell FFS to sync the Palemoon job in a particular direction. and not affecting other jobs in the list of folder pairs.
manually override sync direction for a job

Sorry if you've already tried this... A feature i really like in FFS is the opportunity to set "local comparison, filter and synchronization" settings, (the little buttons between folder pairs). In other words, you can have special filter & synchronization settings for a couple of folder pairs whilst all the other folder pairs simply use whatever "job level settings" you have established. A number of times i've used local filter settings to include/exclude files along with local synchronization settings to make selected folders/files/file types transfer exactly the way i want them to.

Zargron, thanks for responding. I looked at the two gear icons (odd, one says local sync settings, the other says local comparison setting, but they go to the same place.). don't see a way to tell ffs to mirror or update in a particular direction, which may change from sync to sync, without swapping sides for all the pairs in the job.
swapping sides will get confusing, not clear which pair is syncing to which direction, since they all swap at the same time.
another problem that I noticed since starting this thread is that there doesn't seem to be a way to see if a job has been run today. I am used to being able to see that, to make sure that I didn't forget a job at the end of the syncing process.

...go to the same place... Yes, but when you have multiple folder pairs, another panel is available on the left hand side titled "Folder pair". Once you select one of the folder pairs, you tick the "Use local settings" tick-box to start overriding the "default" job settings.Zargron, thanks for responding. .. swapping sides.. Yes, the double arrow button swaps sides for all folder pairs. However, you can manually edit a folder pair to swap one with the other. Obviously, once you start doing such a thing, you need to carefully setup your filters so that FFS doesn't get "confused"!
Presume you're suggesting whereby you open up your backup/sync software and see something like date/time last run and whether it was successful? Yeah - would be be nice. Although, having come from that type of scenario, i'm getting pretty good results and actually enjoying running batch jobs and monitoring the log folders instead.another problem that I noticed since starting this thread is that there doesn't seem to be a way to see if a job has been run today. not seeing left panel "folder pairs". are there other windows that can be used. I see that windows can be moved, but not seeing any to add.
don't see how to manually edit a folder pair to swap one with the other for only that folder pair. Unless you are referring to under 'custom", clicking a right or left arrow, which then changes to a minus. but it really isn't clear if it is swapping or not. too confusing.
I think that ffs is not appropriate for this particular situation. I'll look for something else.
thanks.
