View only files that are on both paths!

Hi forum,

because my beloved tool Filesync does not install anymore on Win10 64bit, I'd like to switch to the famous FreeFileSync...

However, is it true that there is no equivalent to the incredibly useful "View" buttons of Filesync, in FreeFileSync?



There, you could hit one of the buttons at the top in the middle, and instantly you would ONLY see, for example "files on both paths requiring synchronization" -- and the other threlve zillion files simply would be hidden!

Please -- is there something similar in FreeFileSync!?

In region 11 of the main dialog window (see https://freefilesync.org/manual.php?topic=freefilesync ), you can find buttons to toggle between show and hide of the different categories of the compare results (equal, copy left-to-right, copy right-to-left, no-action, etc).

Yep thanks, but there are only three buttons, and seemingly no way to only show:

"files that exist on both paths AND require synchronization"

So, is it REALLY not there? The decades old FileSync has MORE features?

Sure it's there, but not as a single button.

Doesn't FFS already handle this very neatly. After a compare it only shows actions, the other "threlve zillion files" are automatically hidden unless you click the "Show files that are equal" button.

I believe there is.
If there are files existing in the same location in the folder-tree on both the left- and the right-side that are not equal, the green left-to-right arrow (without plus-sign) button "Show files that will be overwritten on right side" will be shown at the bottom, and allows to toggle the visibility of those files.
That seems to cover what you describe.
(In case you do a two-way sync, there might also be such green arrow pointing right-to-left, if the right-side file is newer than the left-side file.)

If files only exist in one location, and will be copied to the other side during the FFS sync, a left-to-right (or right-to left) green arrow with plus sign button will be visible, and allows to toggle the visibility of these files in the compare results.
According to your description, you do not want to see these files. No problem, as it is s separate button.

Yeah, what you want is the default behavior. It won't show you anything but files on both sides that need synchronizing unless you decide you want to see more.
