Will FFS assist or do a total system backup?

I am abandoning the WD MyCloud software after about a year of unsuccessful attempts to use it to back up my computer files. I have decided instead to use the 5 TB MyCloud EHD to mirror my total system, which includes a couple of HDDs in addition to my C:\ boot drive. I've read good reviews of FFS. I assume that the primary function of FFS is to keep one's backup up-to-date.

Can FFS be used to back up everything to my WD 5 TB EHD? Or should I use Windows Explorer to simply copy all of my files to my WD EHD? Is there a recommended other software to do the initial backup?

After I clone my stuff I believe FFS will do a good job to keep things in sync.

Thanks.

FreeFileSync (FFS) is primarily a file syncing tool.

If you want to backup (and potentially restore) your total system,
rather than creating backups (and potentially restore) at file level,
you should consider using an imaging tool.

I have split my (local) disk space into a system partition and data partitions,
and have defined e.g. My Documents to point to a relevant folder on a data partition.

I use FFS to sync my data partition(s) with my NAS,
and I use Acronis True Image (paid) for creating images of my system partition
(and I am happy with it). Freeware alternatives to Acronis True Image do exist.
If my system gets clogged (or would crash or get infected), I simply restore an earlier
system partition image, and get going again in ~8 minutes with a clean and fresh system,
with all data still being intact.
