Hi Zenju :)

I'm using FFS 9.3 and just noticed there is no FFS icon in my Win 10 (v1703) x64 Notification Tray when running FFS.
To be honest I do not know if this was the case in recent versions or not as i usually do not take too much notice.
I checked the Notification Tray list of apps and saw the FFS was listed and switched top SHOW. I tried switching to hide then SHOW again but nothing happened.

I then rebuilt my Notification Tray cache and after I rebooted PC and ran FFS and then checked the Notification Tray List. I NOW saw that FFS is not even listed.
Has something changed. If not how can I correct issue? Please? (I DO see FFS in the left part of the Task Bar showing running apps icons)

Many Thanks

You probably need to do something like this:

Are you saying a FFS Notification icon ONLY appears if running a FFS batch script (ffs_batch) and never when running a manually triggered "ffs_gui" script.

If this is the case then my memory is faulty as there would never have been a FFS icon in the Notification tray when I ran my scripts because I never use "ffs_batch" scripts (except a week ago)

Maybe I am confusing the habit of another app. I was expecting a FFS icon in the Notification Tray and if FFS is minimised whilst I am syncing files from a " "ffs_gui" script, I thought that in the past if I moved my mouse cursor over the FFS Tray icon I could see a label showing what percentage had been completed at that stage. Obviously I am mistaken.

I only was looking for the FFS Tray Icon yesterday because I am totally confused why syncing my Opera and Firefox profiles to a USB 3.0, 64GB Flash drive writing drops for well over half the files being copied to between 10kbps and 50kbps. Maybe its because there are so many files, of which most are tiny and I assume would be synced (copied) to many random locations on the Flash drive. Even so, I am astonished at such a slow speed (WHICH I HASTEN TO ADD is equally slow using Windows 10 File explorer).
I am thinking maybe I should buy a USB 3.0 Hard Drive (possibly Seagate New Backup Plus Ultra Slim 1.0 or 2.0 TB External USB 3.0 hard Drive) as I am guessing USB Flash Drives are not suited to syncing many tiny sized files (unless they have extremely high specs).

Sorry for the inconvenience.

The notification area icon is shown when FreeFileSync is running minimized (for both gui and batch mode), but Windows 7 and later hide all new icons by default.

Hi Zenju :)
Thanks for your assistance,
I am fully aware that Tray Icons are hidden by default in Win 10, but there is NO FFS entry visible in Taskbar settings> under heading Notification Area> Select which Icons appear on the taskbar".

I have tried all I can from my end and am now convinced (rightly or wrongly) the issue is with some aspect of FFS coding). I apologize if I am mistaken in this belief.

WHAT I TRIED
I totally uninstalled FFS, cleared out all FFS leftover config, xml, log files etc. contained in my User "Roaming" FFS folder and I deleted leftover references to FFS in my Registry.

I then installed FFS 9.3 (subsequently upgraded to the new FFS 9.4). I Ran FFS and ran one of my "ffs_gui" scripts. Whilst running I minimized FFS. No Tray icon appeared and no entry was created in Taskbar settings> under heading Notification Area> Select which Icons appear on the taskbar"

I then ran one of my 2 new small ffs_batch" scripts and whilst syncing I clicked on the mauve minimize arrow icon. NO icon appeared in the Tray. I checked Taskbar settings> under heading Notification Area> Select which Icons appear on the taskbar" and confirm that for that script only, an entry had NOW been created. I switched it to "On" and reran the same ffs_batch" (having made changes for it to find) and clicked on mauve arrow again to minimize and NO Icon appeared in the Tray.

I then totally cleared and reset my Notification Tray Icons list using a bat file published by one of the Windows Forums. I rebooted my PC and ran all 27 apps I know that have and use Tray icons. ALL 27 (except FFS) created an entry in Taskbar settings> under heading Notification Area> Select which Icons appear on the taskbar" . All when switched "On" showed an icon in the Tray.

Having done all this, please forgive me for thinking the issue lies with FFS, when ALL other 26 other apps Tray icons appear in the list and can be hidden or show in the Tray and all operate correctly when clicked or right clicked upon. Only FFS is failing to make an entry in the List, so obviously it cannot be switched "On" (to show in the Tray).

My Windows 10 Pro Version 1703 OS Build 15063.632 PC is well maintained and highly reliable. I have no Errors in Windows Event logs and I am unaware of any other issue currently with my setup.

Hoping you can identify the reason why FFS is not writing an entry to my "Taskbar settings> under heading Notification Area> Select which Icons appear on the taskbar". Maybe you can adjust some code to ensure/force it to do so.

ALL other aspects of FFS that I see or use, perform as expected and perfectly as far as I am aware.

Many thanks for you attention and hopefully assistance in resolving this issue, Zenju.
Kind regards

The task bar management is completely controlled by the Windows OS, so I can't imagine what FFS could do wrong to cause issues in this area. In any case to troubleshoot something like this I'd need a repro, but in my tests on Win 10 it works correctly. So it can't be a general issue.

Thanks for your very fast response. I agree that without being to reproduce the issue at your end it is very difficult (if not impossible to investigate). I also accept Windows 10 completely controls the taskbar management. So it looks like I am going to have to live with this issue.

I have deleted the rest of my first reply because after clearing the Notification Tray cache again. temporarily moving the FFS folder in Users...roaming. Uninstalling FFS running CCleaner and then installing a very old version which did not resolve issue. Uninstalled that, reran CCleaner and reinstalled FS 9.4 and restored my moved FFS folder back to Users....roaming, the issue has now resolved itself. I have absolutely no idea why, but I did observe the mauve minimize arrow button (top left in the FFS Sync progress window) is now visible but was NOT visible in the gui script Sync Progress window when I had the issue and was only appearing for my 2 batch scripts sync Progress windows (which did not cause the FFS Icon to appear in the Tray to appear).

AS I said I have no idea why all is OK now, but it is so I'm letting you know this fact.
I assume as far as you know Zenju, clearing/resetting the Notification Tray cache after installation of FFS will not affect FFS ability to show the tray Icon when next minimization of FFS Sync Progress window is attempted. (just "clutching at straws", in all honesty, for an explanation as to why FFS Tray Icon is suddenly NOW appearing and working as intended, but not before after my several FFS uninstalls/reinstalls :)

Kindest Regards
