Filesync file comparison stage is very slow

This is using a VeraCrpty volume on a NAS Drive.

I've checked the file system for errors using chkdsk, there were none; and it worked fine for a small smaple directory.

I am now backing up in mirror mode a whole drive, and so this has in the order of 2,000,000 files or more.

The comparison stage is taking ages where each file found and compared is taking in the order of a second or so. This is impractical.

I am using Windows 7 and in "Task Manager>Performance>Resource Monitor" I can see the system process is sending 1,500,000 B/sec and receiving 16,000 B/sec to and from the NAS drive in the network activity pane. Yes, that is to the NAS drive which is ludicrously wrong! I haven't got to the actual sync operation.

I'm using 9.8, am using versioning to a %date% folder, and using "Detect moved files". I also have a number of excluded files and directories.

Any idea what's happeneing? Is there a way over this?

I'm wondering if this was caused by a remnant of MalWareBytes where I inadvertently agreed to a trial subscription of their "Real-Time Protection".

It is now scanning something like 1,000 times faster!
