Any Way to Only Sync without Comparing Thousands of Files

I only use the program to back up my music, photos and videos to a backup hard drive, but when I use it it always takes at least 45 minutes to compare all my music files before syncing them. Isn't there or shouldn't there be a way for the program to quickly ascertain only what has changed since the date of the last sync?
