Time stamp issues when syncing to NTFS external drive

Hi Guys,

So I have a USB disk attached to a synology. I've been synching to this disk problem free for more than a year.

I recently had to replace the main disk of the NAS. After re-installing everything I re attached the USB drive.

Nog I encounter the following:

When you sync session "A" and then sync session "B" and go back and re-sync session "A" * , the timestamp of the file is changed to the copy time and not the original creation time.

*this also happens after restarting FFS.

I don't know for sure which filesystem is used on this disk, I'm quite sure it's NTFS.

The timestamp does not change until you switch sessions and rescan. You can rescan the same session over and over after a sync and nothing happens. As soon as you switch sessions and rescan.. bam, creation time/date is changed to copy time/date.

Help?

I think it has something to do with the re-attachment of the USB disk to the NAS.. but I'm not sure.

FFS version is up to date.

Thanks!

Tonka.

I just found out, this only happens to files that have one time or other have been (permanently) deleted by FFS.

Any thoughts on this? Does FFS do anything with this info?

During the transfer the timestamps are copied just fine. But under some circumstances the date is reset to the copy time. Something in FFS copies the copytime to the creation time tables

It happens when:
1) A sync is cancelled/stopped during the sync and then rescanned within the same session. The files copied until that moment are reverted.

2) If you delete some files on the right side after a scan, and immediately restart the sync without first switching to another session after deletion of these files. The deleted files are resynced but after the sync is done, the date is reverted.

If you delete the files, switch sessions or close and restart FFS, the deleted files are resynced fine.

I'm stunned.

Ignore my last two posts. The dates are changed to copy time, no matter what you do. It just takes a while.

Perhaps it is the DSM of the synology it's synced to.

It’s not DSM. I just test-synced a 2,5 gig file to the internal synology disk. No problem. Perhaps it’s the usb disk or the fact that it is a usb disk. Filesystem is ntfs. Keep you posted.

It looks a lot like this issue: viewtopic.php?t=1701

It started after my synology crashed and I had to install a new disk. I had to shut the NAS off and reconnected the USB disk again later. Does anyone have a fix? I'm going to sync now in small increments to see if that will do the trick.

Things I have done so far:

1) Deleted the session.gui and made a new one
2) Before the NAS-crash I had made users on the NAS for every Win-10 machine, so no additional login via a seperate credential (admin of NAS in this case) was necessary. After the crash I hadn't done that yet.
3) Removed all network drives with access to the USB disk from all machines, so nothing has access to it, except FFS. Perhaps there was a disturbing factor somewhere, during the longer syncs.

Syncing now. We'll see.

Success! Sync has completed without timestamp issues.

So the solution lies in one of the three options above..

Note: I made the mapped drives to the usb disks AFTER the trouble began, so I don't know if this was a factor to begin with.

Thanks for watching people. Hope someone can benefit from above.
