I have lock files scattered everywhere my hard drive.
Is it possible to have them stored in the program directory and have the program know which file is for which directory ?

Obviously that is not possible.
As multiple PCs may try to sync with a specific location simultaneously,
this directory lock-info must be stored in said file location.
Multiple PCs have different program directories, and likely are not aware
of each other or each others program directories.
And even if they would be aware of each other, for security reasons
it is not desirable to grant other machines read acces there.

Then maybe the option to have this enabled with the downside of not having multiple pc's access the file. That is the preferred scenario if there is just one pc doing the work.

FFS removes (or at least: should have removed) all lock files it created, upon completion of the FFS sync job. This is also the reason why it should not be a problem FFS creates the lock-files in the sync location(s) in the first place.I have lock files scattered everywhere my hard drive.BackupGuru, 19 May 2019, 11:18
If you are left with ffs_lock-files, FFS was apparently manually aborted or terminated abnormally.
