Unexpected end of stream

I didn't find anything exactly the same as the problem I am experiencing, so here we go:

I have a Seagate NAS, and am using SDrive to connect to it. I have connected to it using the admin account, so I know I have all the priveleges I need.

I have configured a Mirror sync from my computer to the NAS. All the different Options are all set to default. Every time I try to Compare or Sync, I get the following Warning:

Cannot set directory lock for (destination folder).
Cannot read file (destination folder)\sync.ffs_lock
unexpected end of stream

If I ignore this and continue, it appears to work and a sync proceeds. However, the next time I try to sync, it wants to resync EVERYTHING. If I let it try, it complains that each file already exists when trying to move the temp files, then it deletes the original file and I end up with a pile of empty folders.

The symptoms sound like a data corruption or hardware failure.

The same files sync fine to a USB hard drive. I've been using a 1TB WD Passport to sync the exact same folder for years without issue. The NAS is new and works great with everything other than FreeFileSync. The errors have been happening since my first attempt to sync this folder to the new destination.

Update: If I change the destination folder from S:\(Destination Folder) to the \\(IP Address)\(Destination Folder), I do not receive the errors. So far, it is still wanting to update everything, but I suspect that has to do with file stamp differences. I'll let it finish the 327GB sync and see how it reacts when I try to sync this again.

The difference is this: When S:\ is used, it is connecting via the SDrive application, which uses Seagate Access, a cloud based connection to the NAS. When I use the UNC, it connects via SMB.
