Error Code 384: ERROR_SMB1_NOT_AVAILABLE

I just started getting this message after installing the latest version:

Cannot read file attributes of "\\BIRCH\My Documents".
Error Code 384: You can't connect to the file share because it's not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack. Your system requires SMB2 or higher. For more info on resolving this issue, see: *********** [FindFirstFile]

I followed the link* and the workarounds didn't help. Is it because I'm backing up to an old XP machine?

*If I include the link the server accuses me of being a spammer!

I got it to work by going to control panel, programs and features...
