FFS randomly hangs with maxed out CPU while mirroring to NAS

Hi,

I am using FFS 5.10 on a Windows XP PC to mirror ~3,000 files of ~50MB each from an external USB HDD to an SMB share on a Netgear ReadyNAS (which runs some flavour of linux). I have set the FFS "verify after copy" option.

Normally the mirroring chugs along at ~5MB/sec and alternates between creating and verifying each file. However, after some random time (usually within one hour of starting the job) the process hangs.

It can hang either in the creating or verifying phase (according to the FFS UI).

When FFS hangs the NAS appears to be behaving normally. Other processes can access files on the NAS.

When FFS hangs the PC appears to be behaving normally. Other programs continue to run normally.

When FFS hangs one core of the PC is maxed out with the FFS process.

When FFS hangs the FFS UI is still active - the UI can toggle between running and paused and the "Speed", "Time remaining" and "Time elapsed" figures continue to update.

If I try to cancel the job while it is hanging I get a message about waiting for the job to terminate, but nothing happens - so I have to kill FFS from the process manager.

Is it possible that this is related to Bug 223 and that the copy has slowed to a crawl rather than actually hanging? If so, should I try the Beta for Bug 223?

Otherwise, any diagnostic advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Following up from my own question:

I installed FFS 5.11 beta and successfully completed a 3 hour sync. That's not proof, but it's pretty strong evidence that you have fixed the problem I was having.

Thanks
