.ffs_gui and .ffs_batch XML file formats

One thing I can't seem to find sufficient information on are the .ffs_gui and .ffs_batch XML file formats. For instance, after updating from version 10.18 to version 10.20 I noticed that the default .ffs_batch file format version has been increased from 14 to 15. When something like this occurs then naturally I would like to know in advance whether the old file format can still be used with the new software version. XSD schemas might be (or not?) overkill, but it would be very helpful to at least provide information on compatibility issues or make a summary of format changes and include it somewhere in the release notes or perhaps a dedicated section in the user manual.

FFS is always backwards compatible with the previous version and automatically converts the old configuration formats. (Practically speaking it's backwards-compatible even with FFS versions that are a couple of years old, but this isn't contractual).
