Hi,

When I am trying to sync shared drives (left one is shared drive, right one is
on the same system running FFS) between two computers I am getting this error:

Cannot write file "\\SharedPC\foldername\sync.tmp.ffs_db"
Windows Error Code 5 : Access is denied.

I have re-checked the permissions and it’s set to full-control.
I thought it’s not any big problem ans was ignoring it but now I am noticing
that deleted files and folders on the left side is ‘regenerating’ because it’s
copied back from left.

Is it something to with the above error? How could I fix it?

But when I am sharing just a folder and sync-ing between two folders it seems
to work fine. Sometime it warns that the Recycle Bin is not available on the
folder location and the files would be deleted instead.

What does it mean? How to resolve it?

Thank you,

Does FFS also have the right permissions? Make sure it is started with a user
which does have permissions, or start FFS with administrator rights, if
nothing else helps.

Exactly, FFS needs the database to determine the sync directions for the two-
way automatic variant.

In sync settings the Recycle Bin is entered as a means for deletion, but it is
not available for network shares. Files will be deleted permanently instead
thous the warning.

Be explicit and either set deletion handling to "permanent" or "versioning"

Thanks Fllax for your reply.

I tried starting the FFS as administrator but still it is not working. I am
getting the same error and the deleted files on the left side (the shared
drive on another computer) is being replaced by the right (FFS is running on
this computer) instead of the right being deleted.

On the remote system there is only one user (with admin previllage). So I am
not able to understand what could be the issue.

Also, when I am sharing just folder (not the entire drive) on the left system
and trying to sync, it's working just fine!

What could be the solution?

Hard do say via remote analysis, but it looks like a permissions issue. I
would do further tests to find out what the problem is, e.g. grant everybody
full access, and if this works, reduce to only a user, if this doesn't work,
check if FFS is started as this particular user...

I had the same problem today, so I looked at the permission on the shortcut
the FFS installs on the desktop.
I first tried to set my user name's permissions on the security tab, but this
did not work.
I then found check-box by pressing the Advanced button on the Shortcut tab,
labelled "Run as administrator".

My username is the administrator on my laptop. I don't know why this is not
the default capability for me. Perhaps it is a new "feature" in Windows 7.

After setting this option it ran great. Hope it works for you.
